Mid century meets country on Hudson Valley's historical Edgewood Estate Charming summer rental! Thank you for your interest in our property, the Edgewood Estate in Millbrook, New York. The charming, bright and handsomely furnished Gardener's Cottage was the former caretakers home. In the summer an open and inviting cottage it becomes a cosy hideaway in the winter - even more so when its roaring fireplace comes to life. The breezeway off the kitchen is ideal for outdoor dining and a good vantage point for watching the sun set over the apple orchard, visited daily by grazing deer. A semi-attached garage was converted in 2012 into loft-style studio with black concrete radiant slab floor and en-suite bathroom. The Gardeners Cottage is one of two houses on this grand 140 acre Dutchess County property. The two houses are not in viewing distance of one another and can be approached by separate driveways. The property is a twenty minute walk away from the village of Millbrook. We believe you will appreciate the understated beauty of this untouched piece of land with its old worldly charm. The place is truly special and the rental prices are reasonable. The property comprises the heart of the historic Flagler Estate and when entering through the main gate directly opposite the Millbrook Golf & Tennis Club one has the impression that time has stood still. Although the old manor, erected by the east coast railroad magnate Henry Flagler at the turn of the century no longer stands, this grand estate remains a very special place not least because of its botanical beauty. Mary Flagler Cary was the co-founder of the American Tree Association and she went full on here with oak, catalpa, beech and tulip trees, winding alleys of chestnuts, willows and lilacs, orchards of apples and pears and a silent walled-in garden with large birch trees. Deep in the forest one can even chance upon chanterelles. The monthly rent includes all utilities. The Gardener's Cottage is currently available any time from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Guests will be asked to provide a refundable security deposit. A pool on the hillside above is available to guests by prior arrangement.
