This listing has been awarded the Airbnb Green Stays Gold Award 2021. A wooden house, on its own, by the sea... With the view of the ocean and sea breeze greeting you every day, a large portion of proceeds from The Resthouse are channeled into our conservation project—Lang Tengah Turtle Watch—on a neighbouring island. We encourage guests to spend a day visiting and enjoying this project, to see how your stay is contributing to the conservation of these majestic creatures. A wooden house, by the sea; entirely on its own, on a promontory - hidden in amongst the trees.. Artist Hayati Mokthar, moved this house from where it was originally: near Ipoh, on the West Coast of Malaysia, 250 km away. It was built by the British Government, between the wars - has not been altered, and is furnished according to the period. ECO-TOURISM The Resthouse is an eco-property that runs completely on solar power, and we invite guests to be conscious of the amount of electricity used on a daily basis, ensuring to use only what is needed. We also highly encourage guests to partake in volunteer work to support the conservation work of the marine life in Pulau Perhentian and Lang Tengah through: Option A: A half day trip to our Lang Tengah campsite; a short talk by our knowledgeable staff about the work that we do in the conservation of our sea turtles, a tour of the nests and campsite, followed by a cliff jump at our favourite spot (optional), and snorkeling around the island. Option B: A quick beach cleanup at nearby Pulau Rawa, followed by gorgeous snorkeling at this and surrounding uninhabited islands. Option C: For divers, underwater cleanups are possible too. Option D: A simple beach cleanup nearby The Resthouse. For the first three options, you would only have to incur the cost of the boat or dive trip to the respective islands and food—which we would highly recommend, especially if snorkelling was already part of your agenda! Proceeds from The Resthouse goes towards running our projects and with this added involvement from you—our beloved guests, we truly believe this experience would also bring more meaning to your trip, as a great way of helping to preserve our beautiful islands that continue to give so much to us :) **IMPORTANT: TRAVELLING DURING COVID-19. PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING** Before booking your visit with The Resthouse, please ensure that you and everyone in your party will be able to provide: 1. Vaccination certificate from your MySejahtera 2. ‘Low risk no symptom’ screenshot from your MySejahtera 3. A negative Covid-19 Self Test kit result, to be sent to us no earlier than 2 days before your check-in date Please ensure that all your documents are in order before you travel. We will not be able to provide you a refund if your results are positive and are unable to make it to the island. Two double bedrooms, two twin bedrooms. The rooms are equipped with: fan, cupboard, hall stand, reading light, bedsheets and towels. There is a shared kitchen for a bit of self-catering - there is a fridge and two gas stoves for some light cooking (groceries not provided, please bring your own) - and plenty of tea and freshly ground coffee may be taken at any time. There are resorts nearby offering food, and several good restaurants 3 to 5 minutes walk further down the beach. During your holiday the host lives on the premises together with you. She will be welcoming you at check in. In case you have any questions about the house, organising snorkelling or scuba diving trips, boat transfers or the island and its surroundings, feel free to ask for help. The Resthouse is on Pulau Perhentian Besar - half an hour by boat from the mainland at Kuala Besut Jetty. Boat transfer is available between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. To leave the island there are daily boats at 8:00 am, 12:00 noon and 4:00 pm. A return ticket costs 70.00/adult and 35.00/child (3-12yrs). From Kota Bharu Airport you can get a taxi (~ 80.00 MYR) or a minivan (~25.00 MYR) to Kuala Besut Jetty. On the island there are only footpaths through the jungle or at the beach. For snorkelling or scuba diving trips water taxis are available nearby. The house is completely made out of salvaged wood and, therefore, no rainforest trees were cut. It runs on 100% solar power and we try to be as eco-friendly as possible given the fragile marine environment. You are also encouraged to use our biodegradable toiletries and be as environmentally conscious as possible during your stay. We offer filtered water and ice for free. We do NOT have hot running water. There are no ATMs on the island and a lot places do not accept credit cards. It is a good idea to get enough cash out before heading over to Perhentian. There are also no grocery shops near the house, so if you need things for light cooking, it is best to do your shopping on the mainland. A daily cleaning service is available by request only. Please speak with your host in regards to this upon your arrival, if interested.
