THE LOCATION The Alpinist is a hotel situated in the cold desert of Western Himalayas- Kaza in Spiti valley. Kaza, a small mountain town, is one of the least populated regions of India. At the elevation of 12500 feet (3800m ) above sea level Kaza is the sub divisional head (capital) of Spiti Valley. The hotel is located in the main market of Kaza which is walking distance from the bus stand. The Alpinist is surrounded by breathtaking sceneries from every side. The Front side view The entrance of the hotel faces the town and provides and an excellent view of some bright, colorful structures at the backdrop of barren earthy mountains. The houses, roads and bridges are normally decorated with the colourful flags that hold a high importance in Spiti religion. The town with little population of Spiti people is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get close to mountain people and look into their culture and lifestyle. Kaza is famous for its colourful festivals. The Back side view The backside view of the hotel starts with fields where locals grow cereals and vegetables in the summer season. Also, one can find grasslands in the close proximity where hundreds of livestock of goats and sheep could be found grazing. The fields end at the serpentine Spiti river which flows ferociously with blue water coming directly from the glaciers of the nearby mountains. The beauty of the river is enhanced by the steep erection of mighty mountains along its unending banks. The snow covered mountains underneath the bright blue sky makes you feel awestruck by the magnificence of the nature. THE ACCESSIBILITY Kaza is surrounded by high mountains from every side and is accessible from Kinnaur valley and Lahaul valley. The route from Kinnaur valley starts from Shimla and traverse along the Beas river till Poo. Then it takes the route along the Spiti river to reach Kaza. This route is open through out the year. The second route starts from Manali. It crosses two of the Highest passes of India. First Rohtang pass at the elevation of 13090 feet which leads to Gramphoo. From Gramphoo we take south of Chandra river and reach Batal. The road from Batal takes a steep accent and lead to the mighty Kunzum Pass at the elevation of 14928 feet. From here we enter the Spiti valley and reach Kaza THE STRUCTURE The Alpinist is a newly constructed hotel. It hosts some beautiful rooms, dormitory, camping ground and an indoor and a rooftop cafe. The rooms on ground and first floor are intricately designed to provide the best possible comfort as well as the essence of staying at a mountain place. The windows, with large glass panes, refresh you with the mesmerizing views of the high snowcapped mountains, the Spiti river and the exotic middle land valley. The entire interior is made of wood to provide the best insulation in extreme cold weathers. The bed linens used are of best quality with 100% cotton and soft feel. The colour pattern of the interior is kept light so as to match with the earthy colours of the Himalyas. The cosy ambience of the rooms give you home like warmth. The sitting arrangement includes tables-chairs and floor bedding and cushions. The entire sitting arrangement is kept ethnic and comfortable for the enriching dining experience. The Roof Top Café One of the main attractions of the hotel is roof top café. The café, as the name suggests, is on the terrace that not only gives a 360 degrees view of the spectacular surroundings of the hotel but also let you sip your coffee in the fresh air of nature’s lap. Tangyud Monastery – Just 4 km from the KAZA, Tangyud Monestry or Sa-skya-gong-mig Gompa is a monestry which is of the shape of a fort built at the edge of a deep canyon. The livestock is taken to the grasslands for grazing and people get busy with their agricultural activities. Barley, potatoes and green peas are cultivated in the month of May and the crop is harvested at the end of August. It is then the valley gets a shade of green on its barren brown mountains.
