HISTORY AND MONUMENTS Nearby Tomar (just 15 minutes away) is one of central Portugal´s most appealing small towns. With it´s pedestrian-friendly historic center, its pretty riverside frequented by swans and families of ducks along with its charming natural setting adjacent to the “Mata Nacional dos Sete Montes” and UNESCO World Heritage listed Convento de Cristo, headquarters of the legendary Knights Templar. Batalha, 15 minutes away, with its UNESCO- listed Santa Maria da Vitória Monastery transports visitors to another world, where solid rock was carved into forms as delicate as snowflakes and twisted rope. Pure Manueline architecture, it attracts admirers of architecture, history, religion and warfare from far and wide. Just 30 minutes away, the little town of Alcobaça has a charming tourist center with a small river that passes under the kitchen of the magnificient 12th century Mosteiro de Santa Maria de Alcobaça, one of Portugal´s memorable UNESCO World Heritage Sites. TIP: Buy a World Heritage Ticket to visit all 3 UNESCO Sites (valid for 7 days). BEACHES Don´t miss Nazaré with its narrow and cobbled lanes running down to a cliff-backed beach. It´s the most picturesque coastal resort. Nazaré isn´t limited to the summer beached – Nazaré, more specifically Praia do Norte from November to March you´ll be able to some of the biggest waves. São Pedro de Moel is 19km away from the busy Nazaré. It´s a small village with a population of just 390, surrounded by the Pine Forest and the Atlantic Ocean. Paredes de Vitória with its wide sandy beaches embraced by two slopes. It´s ideal for families with small children. If you´re looking for a beach far away from the crowds, Praia Fluvial do Montes is the ideal location. Quercus distinguished it as one of the quietest beaches on the Castelo de Bode Dam. Nearby Agroal is a riverside beach on the Nabão River. It´s water source known to have therapeutic properties for skin diseases. ADVENTURE Looking for adventure. Try canoeing the Tejo River from Constância to Almourol and finish off with a visit to the Almourol Castle located in the middle of the river. If you´re fearless why not try canoeing the Zezere River from Castelo Bode Dam to Constância or to Almourol. MUSEUMS Two minutes away, Seiça Museum is a perfect place to see agricultural tools used in the old days as well as a recreation of a typical rural house.
