Just a short stroll to Lake Michigan’s sandy beach and steps away from the Indiana Dunes National Park, this big, comfy vacation lodge enjoys the best location in wild, wonderful Miller Beach, just 40 miles outside Chicago. Our freshly renovated mid-century getaway offers tons of vintage charm and all the modern comforts you crave. Perfect for solo wanderers, couples, family and friends, this is home base for exploring the Indiana Dunes National Park, the City, and Miller Beach all year 'round. The lodge is generously spread over two levels: Upstairs, the vaulted ceilings, open living/dining area and charming eat-in kitchen invite your group to relax together. Three big bedrooms (including a kids’ bunk room) and a full bath are just down the hall. Downstairs, enjoy a well-stocked TV/game room large enough for family Ping-Pong tournaments AND a casual second ‘picnic’ kitchen with grilling area right outside. Two more bedrooms, another bath, a tucked-away reading nook and a convenient laundry room complete the space. Connecting the whole house is an open staircase and a vaulted entryway with a beach closet stocked with towels, coolers and carts for an easy day in the sun. The backyard is uniquely terraced, and features a gas grill, a family picnic table, and a covered outside dining nook lit by Emerson Lights overlooking a wild, wooded dune and deep ravine. It’s like hanging out in a tree-house up in the forest canopy! Our lodge's vibe is bright and comfortable, with a casual mid-century charm. Wherever possible, we've kept the house's nostalgic 1960s features intact, and we’ve filled it with vintage furnishings, decor, books and games. But it’s also fully updated with central air, all new appliances (including a dishwasher and a sleek front-loading laundry pair), excellent bedding, a strong WIFI signal and a TV with Netflix and voice remote. We're completely surrounded by the Indiana Dunes National Park, so wildlife sightings are very common here. Enjoy local shopping, dining and creative activities throughout our little community. Relax on the beach, paddle a kayak around a serene lagoon, surf, snowshoe or ski, or just go for long walks in wild places. Further abroad, the Northwest Indiana region offers family-friendly attractions; and Chicago's museums, nightlife and Michigan Avenue shopping are just an hour or so away by car or commuter train. Go west to explore all that Chicago has to offer -- you'll pop out right on Michigan Avenue at Millenium Park in about an hour. Here in Miller Beach, a National Park shuttle runs from the train to the beach in summer months - catch it for a free tour around town! This is a split-level home with stairs and a terraced back yard overlooking a deep, wooded ravine. Unfortunately, it is not suitable for folks with impaired mobility, crawling infants or toddlers. Children over 5 are welcome with close supervision! One of the bedrooms is furnished with bunk beds intended for kids. The other four bedrooms can accommodate guests of all ages.
