Lodge, two minutes walk from the beach, located between two major surf points. Great escape with privacy, excellent for travelers who like peace and nature. We have two newly built separate cabanas with en suite roofless bathroom. Also there is a villa with two separate large air conditioned suites, each with en suite bathroom and a large sandy porch. Lastly for meals and socializing there is a dining cabana with meal options, two chill-out cabins, outdoor showers, hammocks and swings for use. Local style hut. The pillars are in local teak logs fixed to concrete foundation. The roof frame is of wood and fully covered in coconut leaf mesh which is a great natural resource in abundance and has great performance in keeping the place fresh. The mesh has to be changed every year to maintain its hydrophobic properties. The walls are partially in natural wood and brick. On both sides (north and south) walls there are two openings on the upper part designed on purpose to allow wind circulation making it cool and fresh without the need of air-conditioning. In any case on the roof there is a ceiling fan for additional comfort. The furniture is all in solid Sri Lankan certified teak wood and done locally. The double bed has a frame for the mosquito net, there are two side tables with lock , and a cloths rack. The attached bathroom has a small garden and there is no roof. You can shower under the stars with privacy. The front porch has loungers and hammock to relax in hottest hours. In front there is a outdoor shower great to freshen-up or wash the surfing gear. All the construction, furniture, and maintenance are done by the deaf and mute community of Pottuvil as part of our ongoing social contribution for the community. Around us is manly beach vibe but there is a roti local joint by the fishing area heading south direction, at night its closed. The best option is to head north direction to Arugambay main road where you will find plenty of options. It will take you a 10 mins walk. Parking tuk tuk or bikes can be inside the property gate but, larger vehicles will have to park outside were you will have plenty parking area. Shali and his family are the local hosts and they will be delighted to assist during your stay. The keys shall be given to you through them. A very quiet, and safe neighborhood perfect for a good night sleep listening to roar of the waves. Around us there are with few houses, and hostels. It’s the quite area of Arugambay. The area is manly sand grounds all the way to the beach dune just before the shoreline break. Our place is at the beach area of pasarichenai beach . It is in a very quit area and perfect for a good night sleep listening to roar of the waves. Pasarichenai beach extends 5 km long from the north (main point) to the south end (elephant rock point). Great for morning jogging. Bathing at the beach has to be done with caution if you are not experienced swimming in sea, especially with strong breaks and currents but it shifts during the seasons of the year. check with us for advice. At the beach its very interesting observing the fishermen fishing ritual, pulling large nets ashore with the catch of the day. They normally want you to try it out; if you have the will to do it, and stay until the end of the task; they will rewards you with a good size fish. If not you can always pass later when the catch is sorted at the beach to purchase fish for dinner. Main point is considered one of the best surf points in the east coast, but its manly for experienced surfers. If you are a beginner, head south to elephant rock which has excellent conditions for learning; on the way stop by the lagoon (elephant rock), and climb it to spot elephants; normally at early morning or at sunset. At south end (elephant rock) there is a lagoon that in summer time is normally closed to the sea, but in winter is opened due to the rains. Do not attempt bathing there because there are crocodiles living there. At the top of the bolder at the point there is a little Buddhist shrine, and from there you will have a great 360 view of all surroundings. If you spot some locals with a raft there ask them for a ride at sunset, you won’t regret it, a lot of wild life to spot and great sunset light reflections and effects. We organize some beach camps with barbecue and lagoon tour if there is a sufficient number of interested. The best way to commute in the region is either by scooter or tuk tuk. A scooter in good condition, helmet and insurance will cost you 1200 rupees aprox. Bicycle is also a good option and you can find rental with us for 500 rupees a day or in Arugambay at same rate. There is bus is a station by the Panama road near the village. Ask more information on prices and schedule to Shali. We can call tuk tuk or taxi service from the property. The price to go Pottuvil is 500 ruppes return night or day. (both ways). Parking for 2 or 3 wheels vehicles can be inside the gate but cars and vans will have to park outside where there is plenty parking available. We also have a registered taxi service that can take you any part of the island. (check out the rates with Shali). Breakfast is not included in the rate but we have menu options available for purchase. There is a taxi service that can take you anywhere in the island. The prices are additional to the stay. Invitees from our guests need to register with us first-hand, and cannot spend the night if they have not checked-in.
