Cuddle up in front of the gas fireplace (operated by remote control) in this cozy bungalow. Make brunch in a quaint kitchen with custom cabinets made by an Amish carpenter and thick cararra marble countertops. Sleep in pure silence in either one of the two bedrooms with windows looking out to trees and nature. Just 10 miles north of Center City Philadelphia and very close to two train stations that can transport you to Center City. This house was built in 1900. My mother's best friend was the first occupant of this house with his parents and siblings. Decades later, my mother purchased it from her best friend after his father passed away - so, the bungalow has stayed in the family! This is an updated bungalow. I started to remodel it about 5 years ago -- by refinishing the original pine hardwood floors with an expresso finish, gutting the kitchen and putting in a custom kitchen complete with cabinets made by Amish carpenters in Lancaster, Carerra marble countertops and a Brazilian soapstone sink crafted by Bucks County Soapstone in Perkasie, PA. I also installed new central air, a gas fireplace and a new oil burner. The bungalow is located in the middle of a very quiet tree-lined street so you will sleep very well. I suggest having a drink or coffee on the front porch to relax after you get here. The front porch has a table and seats six. The dining room seats six people as well. The antiques and art in the house are things I have collected over the years or inherited from my mother. I spend a lot of time in the city now, but I come out here for a quiet getaway and I call this my "country" house. You might see done chipmunks, squirrels, bunnies, birds, deer, a fox or two and a raccoon. Enjoy! Arrive by train: Elkins Park Train Station or Jenkintown Train Station and then take an uber to the bungalow. Yes, texting me is best. Elkins Park is a diverse community north of Philadelphia. It is rich in history but what makes Elkins Park unique are the people and the community's commitment to make it a happy place to raise a family while keeping in mind the environment. I suggest seeing a movie at the Hiway Theater in nearby Jenkintown. The Keswick Theater in nearby Glenside has wonderful comedic shows and musical artists so see if there is a show while you're here. The Blue Comet is one of my favorite places in the neighborhood for good food - on Sundays they have Rock-a-Billy music. If you need food, a local co-op is just a mile away and a Whole Foods and Trader Joes is a couple miles away. There is parking at my house. Guests MUST park in the driveway . To get to the city, take Broad Street all the way into the city - on the way, you will see neighborhoods in transition and Temple University. Or, to get to the city, take Broad Street to Route 1, to 76 east. On good days, it only takes about 25 minutes to get to the city. Uber is available here so I suggest using that. The Elkins Park and Jenkintown stations are both close by and both will take you into the city. Summer and Fall are the best times to be here although the winter is very pretty when it is snowing.
