Comfortable, modern gîte in the Pyrenees foothills
Comfortable, modern gîte in the Pyrenees foothills (sleeps 6)
Bonnes Saisons nestles on the edge of the charming village of Puivert in Occitanie, a little-known warm and sunny region of southwest France. Enjoying a peaceful setting by the swimming lake with both the backdrop of the Cathar Castle and the sweeping foothills of the Pyrenees, the Gîte is only a few minutes’ walk from the village centre where there is a choice of seasonal restaurants and bars. It comprises of a completely self contained, private entrance apartment offering all the comforts of home for up to six, all set out completely on the ground floor. There are three large bedrooms all with King size beds and en-suites with large walk-in showers, all include bed linen and towels. The largest bedroom has a daybed that makes down into two comfortable full sized single beds, so it easily accommodates four people (adults/ children). We can also provide a cot for a baby/toddler if you don’t have your own travel cot, so please chat to us about this and any other specific needs for a little one when you book . There is free wi-fi throughout, a large living area with two large sofas and armchairs, with TV and DVD player and DVD’s, books and games, a separate breakfast/dining room and a new, fully fitted kitchen, with hob, oven, large fridge/freezer and microwave, with all the utensils, crockery and pots and pans you need. In addition, there is a shared laundry room, with washing machine, tumble dryer, ironing facilities, washing line and airers. Full use of the garden with its views of the Chateau de Puivert and the foothills of the Pyrenees, where you are welcome to just relax in the shade on the garden furniture and read a book or retire to your bedrooms own private patio with café style seating. The BBQ and outdoor eating area are also for guests to use and enjoy and there is free private on-site parking. So, it’s ideal for families or groups of friends at any time of the year who want to get away from it all, but still take advantage of the excellent range of activities and facilities locally, as well as exploring Occitanie further. Locally - there’s walking and cycling (of all types and levels) in the surrounding countryside, horse riding, swimming (and fishing) at the lake, watersports at nearby Lac de Montbel or town of Quillan, the music, food and stalls of Puivert’s weekly night markets in July and August, even gliding can be arranged at the local club. Looking slightly further afield, the Ariège remains a little-known Department of Occitanie stretching from Haute-Garonne in the west, to the Principality of Andorra in the south, and borders the Aude and Pyrénées-Orientales in the east. A stunning area, well worth visiting for a huge variety of outdoor activities as well as sightseeing and exploring Cathar History, with the ‘Bastide’ towns dominating the lowlands and then the Pyrenean highland, full of little hidden valleys with their castles and towers - giving the whole area a great sense of space and tranquillity. Then the Aude, our own department, where you can experience the contrasts of the dry and hilly Corbières wine region towards the centre, the fascinating but strangely counterfeit walled city of Carcassonne (a world heritage site further north), and then eastwards, the Mediterranean warmth of Narbonne, with its unfinished cathedral and protected natural coastline of lagoons and inland lakes. As the high season is the main family holiday time, we try to only accept weekly (or greater) bookings for the gîte, but we are flexible both during and outside these times of the year - so please always contact us if you have something in mind and we will see what can be done.
