Over a century ago, a working mill stood on this property that provided flour for the then-large town of Merl, a bustling village on the Mosel River, known for its great sun-exposed vineyard sites. As the family grew, my great grandfather knew he needed to expand his home. Fortunately, the mill operated on a large parcel of land, separated from town by only a half mile but with enough space for one more house and expansion of the original Dreiherrenmuehle. As the need of house-milled flour declined significantly, the mill sat unused and slowly deteriorated. My father and mother grew to appreciate the charm that these homes had to offer and started to renovate them one by one in the 1990s, restoring them to their original glory. Meanwhile, they had acquired a few of the vineyards on the best plots and began making Riesling. Earlier this year, my wife and I completed renovation on the final house on the property, bringing brand new touches and fixtures while preserving the historic integrity of the home itself. We welcome you to be our guest in our home away from home.
