Adventure off the beaten path yet only 4 mi from downtown Lexington to this remodeled, re-purposed barn now a retreat & event facility. Only 2 deluxe private guest rooms each with en-suite private bath & use of the remodeled Hayloft Rm for your lounge space. This is a totally unique experience. It is quiet, restful & offers a central point from which you can easily explore the area. Or, stay on the property & enjoy some quiet relaxation & all the amenities here. The Lodge is part of a larger property called South River Highlands Country Retreat, a 250 acre parcel above the confluence of two rivers. This retreat is a 'self-catering' facility meaning that we require our guests to take care of themselves, remove sheets, cleanup after themselves, turn off lights, just as they would at home & leave the space clean as they found it etc. There is no cooking access here. A self-catering coffee bar with coffee, teas, hot cocoa, a small microwave & a mini refrigerator is available in the Hayloft Lounge on the 2nd floor (not in your guest room). Guests in this accommodation may share this 1200 sq ft floor we call the “Hayloft Lounge”with guests in adjacent suite. For many guests this large space is absolute heaven; for the guests who prefer seeing other people, who are uncomfortable in large spaces, preferring smaller more intimate spaces etc, this guest accommodation may not be the best choice :) Your private guest suite is on the 2nd floor (straight ahead of the staircase) of our remodeled dairy barn. There is no elevator. You will have access to the 1200 sq ft Hayloft Room which serves as a lounge area for the guests of the only 2 guest rooms in the barn. No children will be staying in these guest rooms. If you are staying with us when there is no function happening on the first floor, you will have use of the 65 ft grapevine covered pergola with patio furniture, fish pond with fountain & little waterfall, fire pit, private gazebo, meditation garden & walks on the other side of our farm which leads to a modern day labyrinth with a 360 degree, 8 county view on a clear day! If there is an event happening on the first floor you will have access to all excepting pergola & possibly fire pit for that time frame of the event rental. The Rustic Oak Room (event space) & catering kitchen on the first floor are not part of this private guest room rental as they are a separate rent-able spaces. You are invited & encouraged to walk the adjacent 220 acres of the property. Directions are available upon request. While we are available by phone & actually have a home on the farm just steps from The Lodge you might not see us. Depending upon the days you are here you may see Russell mowing the grounds or tending to the meditation garden. Of course, if you have any questions or need something we are always available by phone. We respect your privacy. It is beautiful here! Short walks bring amazing vistas of mountain ranges, hayfields, live stock & on a clear night more stars than you have probably seen in a long time. Our neighbors are good country folks many of whom have been on their land for decades, if not generations. People here turn out lights at night & frown on 'city folks' who leave them on. We do our best to be good neighbors & keep a low profile. No loud music outdoors, no loud entertaining outdoors past 10:30pm. **There is no elevator so you will need to be okay with carrying your luggage up to the 2nd floor. We are located 4 miles from the center of downtown historic Lexington. It is advisable to have a car here. The only 'public' transport must have reservations ahead of time & charges $2/mile. You will want to have a good flashlight, comfy shoes to walk open ground. Your car will be parked approximately 25 yards from The Lodge entry. We are open all year & winter offers a special quiet that many love. A car really is a necessary unless, of course, someone delivers you & you do not need to leave the farm before being picked up :) This is not your hotel experience! This is a 'self catering' retreat facility with many amenities & lots of spaces to cozy up with a book, lie in a hammock, sit around a fire pit, take walks by the river or on the farm to the highest hill we call Mt Grace with a modern day labyrinth & much more. See the photos for more info on this special land & rentals. NOTE: the cats are not in The Lodge & the 'other pets' are livestock & fish :)
