Blackthorn Lodge is situated in the rural village of Coed y Paen and is only a 5 minute walk to the Carpenters Arms country pub and restaurant or 2 minutes drive or 10 minutes walk to Llandegfedd Reservoir’s Visitor and Watersports Centre. We are also less than 6 minutes drive to Greenmeadow Golf and Country Club which has a restaurant and bar. The detached bungalow is heated using a Charnwood wood burner and multifuel fire. Set in just under 2 acres of grounds - which it shares with its sister bungalow Hawthorn Lodge - this Visit Wales Four Star, two bedroomed - one king size bed and two full sized single beds - country bungalow with multiple off-road car parking offers a spacious lounge with a comfortable L-shaped corner sofa and a beautiful log burning multi-fuel stove. Snuggle up in front of a real fire as it heats large radiators in the bedrooms, bathroom and hallway (please note that the fire must be lit for the radiators to work). The lounge also has a 43” flat screen smart tv with Freeview tv channels, access to apps including YouTube, Netflix and catch up tv channels and a blu ray DVD player. The modern, well stocked, fitted kitchen has a 50 x 50 fridge freezer, washing machine, ceramic hob, oven and microwave oven. The lodge has ceramic floor tiles throughout and the bathroom is a fully tiled wet room with shower, toilet and sink. The lodge can comfortably sleep 4 people - one double bed, two single beds. The master bedroom also has a 43” wall mounted flat screen Smart tv with access to popular Apps and Freeview tv channels. To the exterior right hand side and rear of Blackthorn Lodge is a private garden area which is home to Blackthorn Lodge's own outdoor red cedar barrel sauna, a jacuzzi, garden furniture and can also be used for bicycle storage. The front of the building offers an open patio/terrace area with garden furniture, potted flowers and a very large shared grassed area for recreational purposes. There is also a small fruit orchard which is home to a small flock of free-range chicken and geese. A range of children's play equipment including a climbing frame with a double swing set, rock wall, slide etc. a trampoline, a selection of outdoor toys and a brick built BBQ are available for guests' use - subject to conditions. The accommodation is suitable for singletons, couples, friends and families and is disability friendly. It has a wet room style shower and wheelchair accessible doors, electric sockets and light switches. There are no hidden extras. Electricity, wood for the fire, towels and bed linen are all included in the price. Llandegfedd Reservoir is located in the heart of beautiful countryside. It forms a 434 acre lake, which is 1.5 miles long and 1 mile wide at the widest point. The entire site has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its richness in wildlife. The purpose built Llandegfedd Lake Watersport Centre specialises in tuition and equipment hire. You may also bring your own kit and pay to launch your craft. They offer one of the best sailing experiences South Wales has to offer and is a fully accessible activity. Other water activities include windsurfing, dinghy sailing, stand up paddle boarding and pedal boarding, canoeing and kayaking. They have brand new kit for hire including the first fleet of Stand-Up Pedal Boards in Wales. They offer fishing and open water swimming. Llandegfedd Lake’s open water swimming sessions are regulated under the close supervision of their fully-trained team. Pre-booked organised sessions are tailored to clubs, groups and individuals who want to have a go at this hugely popular activity. Llandegfedd Lake also has 4 designated walks that can take you around the reservoir and into the surrounding countryside. Blackthorn Lodge is also close to two local golf courses - Greenmeadow and Woodlake Park Golf and Country Clubs. Abergavenny, Cardiff, Monmouth, Brecon Beacons are also less than 30 minutes' drive. Usk town offers a range of small traditional rural shops, coffee shops, pubs and restaurants while Cwmbran - which is less than 4 miles away - offers a Bowl Plex, Vue Cinema, Community Farm and a host of cafes, restaurants and large retailers.. Local attractions include Blaenavon World Heritage Site, Big Pit, Caerleon Roman Amphitheatre, Llandegfedd Reservoir, Boating Lake, Usk Picnic Area, Community Farm etc. The property is less than 6 miles from the M4 motorway which provides easy access to local castles (see our website) and lots of other attractions including St Fagans, Cwmcarn Scenic Drive etc.
