Quirky & spacious, lovely Old Angel in Axbridge enjoys pride of place in a Medieval Square in a best-of-both-world's location. Stunning Somerset countryside near Cheddar Gorge, in the foothills of the Mendips, an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'. And in easy reach of two great UK cities: Bristol & Bath. With wood-burners, rambling 'secret' garden & arty charm, it's a spacious yet home-from-home house, loved by guests for friend & family get-together's. Airport, coast, culture & heritage sites all nearby. We like to think the Old Angel lives up to its name: a house with a sense of history and a decent amount of contemporary comfort! Artisan and eclectic in style (flagstone & wood floors, old fireplace or two, scattering of beams) there's an emphasis on natural materials, up-cycled furniture & arty decor. Hidden away from the house - and past the Little Angel apartment at the rear of Old Angel - where a friend occasionally stays (own separate entrance not shared with the house) is a large and secluded 'secret' garden with steps leading up to various terraces. With a Mediterranean style courtyard for al fresco dining/BBQ area, there's plenty of outdoor space to relax in. Please note: not suitable for unsupervised youngsters. Inside there's also ample indoor space to relax in peace or enjoy family & friend get-together's. Please note, it is not an event, party or loud music place. Spread over three storeys - with 5 bedrooms on each of the first and top floors - the flexible accommodation happily suits either small or larger numbers of guests. GROUND FLOOR: Fully equipped kitchen, seating 9, with wood-burner Adjoining cosy snug room FIRST FLOOR: Upstairs living room with wood-burner, overlooking the Square Spacious King size bedroom/ en-suite bathroom Queen size bedroom Large wet room with 'rain' shower TOP FLOOR: Very large Super King size bedroom overlooking Square Bedroom with 'Zip & Link' bed options: as 2 singles or 1 Super King Single bedroom Bathroom - sunken bath. Enjoy a candlelit bath with Mendip view! We'd like the house to feel like home-from-home. With a fully equipped kitchen, gas hob/fan oven, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, fridge & freezer it's well suited for self-catering. Eating out is also an easy option. Axbridge itself has three good food-serving pubs and charming tearoom. There's a huge variety of restaurants, cafe's and eateries throughout the area: from great fish & chips to Michelin rated inns. Not to mention those famous cream teas, Farmers' Markets, cider tasting farms & character rural pubs! GUEST ACCESS Entrance is directly off The Square. You can park, unload, receive food deliveries right outside. The large secluded back garden is accessed by private alleyway - past the Little Angel apartment at the rear of the house. (A friend occasionally stays - seperate entrance via alleyway). THE AREA Axbridge offers a real 'has-it-all' location. Landscape-rich countryside: the Mendips, Somerset Levels, gorges, caves, coastline. A wonderful base to explore the great outdoors for walkers, cyclists, climbers, photographers. Cheddar reservoir & national SUSTRANS cycleway, the 8 miles Strawberry Line track also right on the doorstep. And there's easy access to great cities, culture & buzz: - Vibrant Bristol, 19miles/half an hour away - Georgian Bath. A beautiful drive up Cheddar Gorge and over the Mendips - Charming Wells, the UK's smallest city: Cathedral, Bishop's Palace and twice-weekly markets - Quirky Glastonbury with its famous Tor, Abbey ruins & Chalice Well - The natural wonders of Cheddar Gorge & Wookey Hole Caves - Stonehenge, Exeter & Cardiff are do-able day trips - Bristol International Airport 9 miles ON THE DOORSTEP: Three friendly Axbridge pubs/restaurant, all serve meals Charming tearoom: breakfast, lunch, cream teas Co-op shop open early to 10pm King John's Hunting Lodge (National trust Museum) Local Reservoir popular for walks/jogging Monthly Saturday Farmers market in Square Weekly Sunday Cheddar car boot/flea market
