Lake Front Isolation Bliss
Yes, clean is on my mind, like yours! No effort spared! Just don't take Liberty Lane if it comes up on your GPS en route. It's a Vermont cow path. When you arrive, mind-blowing view and sunsets. Just crazy amazing@ Book filled, wildly romantic, cozy and colorful one bedroom (half opening to living room) with gas fireplace, full kitchen, covered deck... It's funky and fantastic - with a canoe for two. and two kayaks. x (bring please organic soap/shampoo products please, to protect the lake, so close!) Why do I say funky? The tub/shower is behind a screen in the living room/kitchen area. The toilet is in a closet next to the kitchen! If you need LOTS of privacy, this isn't for you! People who love this place don't mind letting it all hang out. I would say they were Bohemians, world-traveled, with priorities other than the set up of the cottage. VIEW VIDEO- that sums it up... ! Narrow part of Lake Champlain, so you can canoe to New York State and some beautiful inlets. On a quiet 'dead end' lakefront dirt road, no traffic, just the sounds of the waves, the birds, the crickets, a train whistle across the lake. There are a couple of other cottages down the road - so you can borrow a cup of sugar if you want to!- but pretty private and quiet... Great retreat to finish your novel or start one. Doggies LOVE it. Plenty of squirrels to chase and no cars. Long walks in the farm fields or the nearby trails up to gorgeous views of the Adirondacks. Google Snake Mountain. You can sit and watch the lake and sunset from the porch or walk down a short winding path to the Look Out. Fires on the beach are the best, with a slate fireplace, - and plenty of beautiful smooth slate rocks to design your own. When I come back to visit there are often beautiful sculptures make of rocks. As I mentioned, the clawfoot tub is in the corner of the living room behind a Thai Screen! with a shower, yes-- but you can take a wonderful tub while talking to your beloved who is cooking you dinner! The toilet is in a little closet near the kitchen in a closet of its own. (Water Closet they used to call it?) Again, it's funky! This is NOT Motel 8! The mosquitos don't like the wind from the lake, neither do the flies, so that's a big plus. Every night there is a spectacular sunset, varied, intense, life changing. I ask that guests bring towels and double bed sheets. If you're flying in, can make arrangements. Yes, there is wireless, who can do without it? but NO TV. Huge selection of books you meant to read last year. Great fishing, perch and bass right off the shore, or take the canoe out. Great birdwatching! Eagles, huge woodpeckers, hummingbirds, eagles! This area of the Northeast has the darkest night skies -- so the stargazing is spectacular! Grill on the beach at dusk, or the deck, or take the canoe out and watch the stars. Steep stairs, but if they are too much for you, there is another way to the beach, just let me know Wonderful hiking trails nearby and waterfalls... This is a great part of Vermont... ! It's 20 minutes, a beautiful easy drive to Middlebury. Or head to Bristol Gap. This place is warm, inviting, and sane. If you are uptight and have lots of issues with who knows what, you just won't fit in. I need to say that up front. There is a special feeling here, because it's not a staid rental, but really a home. I keep in touch with many guests who have been here through the years because they are my kind of people. Open, warm and friendly, exploratory, curious, outdoorsy, adaptable, bibliophiles who love to cook out under the stars.
