Solon Iowa Getaway Near Downtown
Enjoy our quaint little town! Whether here for a wedding at Palmer House, Celebration Farm, a getaway to Big Grove, Lake Macbride, Coralville Reservoir, Saddleback Ridge Golf Course, or Lake Macbride Golf Club, just need a short girls/guys retreat, this turn of the century home is accommodating to groups, best suited for close groups or a couple of families as it is not huge. Two blocks to downtown Solon, 10 minutes to Iowa City, 10 minutes to Mt. Vernon or North Liberty, 20 to Cedar Rapids. The main level features the kitchen and dining areas, living room, bathroom bedroom (full bed) and mudroom/laundry room. Access to main level bath is either through the bedroom or through the living room. Upper level features one private room with two queen beds, one private room with 4 single beds, and a semi-private room with queen bed separated by curtain. Upper level bath has sink outside the bathroom so guests can brush teeth, etc. while someone is using shower/toilet. This is an old house that was remodeled in recent years so expect things like steeper stairs and hardwood floors that creak along with the character of an old house. Entire home Hosts do live in town and have many resources nearby if a guest needs anything at all. Solon is a sleepy little bedroom community for Iowa City and Cedar Rapids. This home is located in easy walking distance to Big Grove, Salt Fork, Eastwoods, Good Vibes Cafe, The Solon American Legion, Solon Hardware, Sam's Main Street Market grocery store, Moxie and Mortar (gifts and wine) and Palmer House Stable wedding and event venue. The community also features three convenience stores, a nutrition store for smoothies and other healthy options, and a Dairy Queen. Just down the street is Ruzicka's for fresh steaks for grilling (open weekdays)! Most of Solon is walking distance. The town has a total area of under 3 miles. Solon Nature and Recreation Center features a paved trail, Lake Macbride has a gravel trail of over five miles. These are about a 15 minute walk from the house to access. If you wish to see the lakes and golf courses, you will want a car. Uber is available here but somewhat spotty, you can almost always get a lift to Solon from the larger cities, it can just be harder to get an Uber from Solon to the larger cities. This is a historic home so through it has been updated there are things unique to old homes (not all outlets are grounded for 3-prong plug-ins), there is an old barn on the property - please do not access that - it is not deemed safe. The home is equipped with wi-fi and smart TVs. There is no cable here - guests can log in and out of the accounts they would like to use.
