This exceptionally clean apartment, just 4 miles from Athens via a single county road, overlooks a peaceful 3-acre pond. It is situated on 5 acres in a safe and beautiful rural subdivision. Water’s Edge is a great choice for couples, solo adventurers, and small families visiting Ohio University for parents' weekend, homecoming, freshman orientations and college visits, Fur Peace Ranch, and other music events, or outdoor getaways in the Hocking Hills! No swimming/beach. Maximum occupancy: 4 This second-story apartment is 800 square feet and has a separate entrance from the owner's home. It is very private and features a gorgeous view from the deck, as well as the amenities you have at home, including a fully-equipped kitchen, television (stream live TV, Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, and PBS), towels, bedding, blow dryer, toiletries, and more. You will have wireless access and internet as well. The apartment has one bedroom with a queen-size bed, a twin mattress stashed under the bed, and a full-size pull-out sofa bed in the living room. You have full access to the (Website hidden by Airbnb) deck outside the apartment has a small table and chairs and offers a stunning view. A grill is also available. You are welcome to stroll the grassy lane on the other side of the pond across from our house, go fishing (but bring your own pole), have a picnic, or play a game of horse shoes. Swimming and kayaking are not permitted. Our own private “yard” is on the other side of the house — the opposite side of the house from Water’s Edge apartment. If you wander over to the other side of the pond, you may spot my husband gardening or working on an outdoor project in our yard. We are more than happy to help you with just about anything you need! Simply text or walk on down around the deck to our front door. We are equally happy to leave you alone if that's what you'd prefer! When we first moved into this neighborhood, we felt like we'd moved into a state park. Trees and wildlife abound! You are likely to see deer up close and personal as well as all types of wildlife that is attracted to water. We have a heron that makes our pond its home. Guests share our driveway which will easily accommodate our car as well as yours but can also accommodate a second guest’s car. please let us know if your party will be arriving in two automobiles so we can make arrangements. We ask that guests park on the right side of the drive, under the overhang. Pull all the way up to the double doors. We are not near public transportation but are a short drive into town. For those who want to enjoy the nightlife and/or the outstanding breweries in and around Athens, both Lyft and cab services are available. One main road, County Road 25 takes you from our subdivision straight into Athens, though it's hardly a "straight road." It weaves and curves along a gorgeous route. We live in the hills and, therefore, guests should set up their cell phones for wireless calling. We provide guests with a few snacks and a continental breakfast; for those staying a while, grocery stores are a short drive from the apartment. Pizza cannot be delivered outside of the city limits. During summer, our entire house is air conditioned -- including the apartment -- with whole-house AC, but we also provide additional window AC units for guests. In the winter the apartment is heated with ceramic wall heaters, but in very cold weather, it is heated with a ventless gas unit. Whether hot or cold outside, our guests are comfortable inside. We have a moderate cancellation policy, meaning that if you need to cancel, and if you do it more than 5 days in advance, you will be refunded. During the winter, we are happy to reimburse guests whose visits are cancelled at the last minute due to snow and/or ice. Check-in is easy! We typically leave the apartment door open when we know a guest is arriving. Athens is located in the foothills, so expect hilly terrain. No problem in the spring, summer, and fall, but winter can get dicey. Winter guests are wise to book last minute so they know what the weather will be. As little as a couple of inches make travel outside the city challenging if not dangerous. Water’s Edge sits above Athens and the house, itself, is at the base of a hill. We have a moderate cancellation policy; however, if you book in advance and winter weather prevents you from getting around the area safely once you arrive, we are happy to refund your payment for any nights you are unable to stay — minus any Airbnb fees. Please keep in mind we do not allow pets under any circumstances. Although we are animal lovers, we keep the apartment animal-free. (Documented support pets are the only exception. See “house rules.”) Measures to protect your health: If you’ve read our reviews, you know that many of our guests have rated Water’s Edge as exceptionally clean. Even before fears of a mysterious (corona) virus emerged, we took every cleaning measure we could to ensure our guests’ safety, including wiping down surfaces with disinfectant wash (paying special attention to door knobs, light and lamp switches, faucet handles, and the TV remote). All bedding and the sofa cover are, of course, washed after each guest’s visit, and we use anti-allergen covers for mattresses and bed pillows, but additional details after each guest’s visit now include tossing all sofa pillows into the dryer for 20 minutes and thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing air conditioner filters after each guest’s stay. Please note that we keep disinfectant wipes under the kitchen sink. We closed our apartment during most of April and all of May. Although we will re-open in June, we will close the apartment for 48 hours between guest visits in order to fully ventilate, sanitize, and launder .
