DANGAR ISLAND POLE HOUSE The Dangar Island Pole House is a little like being in a very comfortable tree house. There are, blinds for those who like to sleep in but for early risers, the easterly aspect gives you the opportunity to awake to the sounds of the many local birds. Downstairs there's an open-plan kitchen and living area, with polished floorboards and large glass sliding doors, which open out to the wooden deck. The deck has a retractable awing for shade and a barbecue is provided. From the front deck there are treetop views and glimpses across the water to Wobby's magnificent cliffs. Downstairs is a combined bathroom/laundry. There is also a rear deck and garden path that leads to the ridge top with views west to the barbecue/Brooklyn area Upstairs are two bedrooms (queen and twin). TRANSPORT It's possible to book the island's buggy to transport you and your luggage up the hill. (The alternative is pre loading everything into our wheel barrow and walking uphill for about 8 minutes ) THE FOOD Dangar Island Cafe, does light meals, strong coffee and a Sunday breakfast barbecue and also has basic provisions for sale. The local bowling club is the other option and a good place for a drink on the deck while the kids play on the swings. Otherwise it's BYO. OUR LOCATION Riverview Avenue is the mainly flat unmade path that rings the island halfway up the hill. A paved road leads down to the island hub of ferry wharf and cafe. HOW TO GET THERE In good traffic it takes about 45 minutes to reach Brooklyn from the Sydney Harbour Bridge, via the Pacific Highway and F3, but on Friday rush hour you can double that time. Take the Brooklyn/Mooney Mooney exit off the F3 and double back over the old grey arched bridge to Brooklyn Marina, from where you take the Dangar Island ferry, check the timetable from the internet for schedules and fares. Another option is the Water taxi.
