The former fishing village has developed into a popular holiday and bathing resort. Laboe is an old place and was first mentioned in documents in 1240. The name Laboe is derived from the Slavic "Lubodne", which means "swan place". And even today the swan is the Laboes heraldic animal. The long, fine sandy beach slopes gently towards the fjord, making it particularly recommended for families with small children. The water park is located directly on the beach promenade. With the Kiel Fjord, one of the most frequented waterways in the world, on the doorstep, "beach life" offers a special attraction for "seers" who can watch the passing ships extensively. The world-famous 85 m high naval memorial overlooks the panorama of Laboe.
