Top floor apartment with lift in Bordighera, on the Italian Riviera, a few miles from the French Côte d'Azur. All you require is available in the apartment: towels, hair dryer, microwave, pots & pans, Wi-Fi & TV. Pack light because you will have all you need. A Tourist Tax is due to the Municipality of Bordighera. Please read "House Rules, Cancellation Policy and Rental Agreement" carefully. Clean, bright with plenty of natural light; comfortable, with a lovely view on the hills, the elegant villas on the ancient Via Romana, and the magnificent ultra-centenarian Ficus trees surrounding the Clarence Bicknell Museum, it is the ideal choice for your relaxing holiday in one of the most beautiful seaside towns of Liguria's Riviera. Located in a very quiet part of town, it is however just a 10-minute walk from the beach and the town centre, where you will find a 24-hour supermarket, shops, cafes and restaurants. An even shorter walk will take you to old-style convenient shops on the tree-lined Corso Italia, with its fashionable bars and cafés, and buzzing nightlife. Parking is available in the streets around the property, free, on a first-come-first-served basis. Unfortunately, parking capacity is currently reduced as the municipality is rebuilding the local school. Because of that, it may not be easy (in high season) to park your car within the 5 minute or so walking distance. We have now added (free of extra charge) the possibility to park one car in a locked garage in the same property: • Width: 2.05 m • Height (gate): 1.80 m • Depth: 4.30 m As you can see, it is suitable for a small, medium/small car. INFO Although I may not be around when you are there - I live in Brescia - I will always be available from 8 am to 11 pm by e-mail, text, and phone for any questions that you might have. A young friend who lives on the same landing, right in front of the apartment's door, will wait for you with the keys on your arrival and will be there to assist you in case anything arises that I cannot help you with. The "British Colony of Bordighera" — A bit of history. At the end of the 19th century, Bordighera became extremely popular with British travellers after the publication of a book, in 1855, titled "Doctor Antonio" and written by Giovanni Ruffini, poet and disciple of the Italian republican leader Giuseppe Mazzini, who fled Italy after being sentenced to death for conspiracy. Having been discovered for its natural beauty, for its luscious flora, for its excellent climate and its numerous peaceful hillside walks among the olive trees and palms, Bordighera rapidly became an exclusive, first-class residential resort, even competing with Nice and Menton. By the turn of the century the English guests of the "British Colony of Bordighera" — as it was commonly referred to — were as many as 3,000, outnumbering the local population which at the time amounted to around 2,000 inhabitants. The English created their own banks, agencies, shops, sport-clubs and cultural centres, the Anglican Church, a theatre and also a weekly paper in English, French and other languages. More guests, in fact, started coming to Bordighera from other European countries. The majority of the buildings of that period still survive today, enhancing modern Bordighera with a prestigious cultural tradition, thanks also to the Bicknell Museum and the International Municipal Library. The Tennis Club, still in use today, was indeed the first established Tennis Club nationwide, (it was build in 1878, one year after the Wimbledon club) with 20 tennis courts — much reduced in the post-war period — and the Bridge Club as well. The flat is located less than 10 minutes on foot from the bus stops to both Ventimiglia (West), and Ospedaletti/Sanremo/Imperia (East), and just a 10-minute walk to the train station. Great base to visit West Liguria, with its cosy medieval towns and villages. Very convenient for both water sports, and hill and mountain-walking. Codice CITRA: 008008-LT-0078
