As English as high tea, hot buttered scones and Eton Fives, Kensington Place is a home with stiff upper lip – and cheeky arched eyebrow to boot. Expect all manner of period charms, from Queen Anne table legs to rolltop baths, classic bedroom coronas to fabulous Georgian features. Only, there’s a surprise or two in the mix. For every traditional watercolour is something eye-poppingly abstract, while the contemporary dining room adds vibrant pinks to its rebellious nude print. A playful blend of past and present? Where else could this home be found, then, but Notting Hill…? Green and pleasant: Self-confessed foodies, your hosts can’t get enough of the Notting Hill Farmers’ Market, handily close by. Otherwise, you’ll find them in Portobello Road, majestic Holland Park or leafy Sussex, where they have a second home. Glorious revolution: Along a street of sumptuous Georgian houses, the setting is about as English – and elegant – as they come. We could say the same of the sitting room, too, with its period chairs, ornate fireplace and smart bookcase. Settle into a marshmallow-soft sofa before running an eye over the room’s artwork, all shiny bright courtesy of skylights and sash windows. Just as splendid is the kitchen downstairs. As well as a cosy-classy TV area, the playful pinks and humorous nude lend a contemporary vibe to the cool dining space. You’ve a dainty patio on which to serve afternoon tea, or make a beeline for the bedrooms. The master is a period delight, with paintings, classic furniture and a corona crowning the super king size bed. You’ve a bathroom with roll-top bath and glinting marble, as well as two graceful doubles and another bathroom, complete with a cache of our White Company goodies.: Tally ho If it’s Saturday, take your pick of produce at the farmers’ market. Then, if it’s sunny too, you’ve the enviable choice of Holland Park or Kensington Gardens for the scenic picnic. Portobello Road is one of Notting Hill’s loveliest attractions, with its antiques market and chic cafes, while Kensington High Street boasts some of London’s most lavish labels. The tube from Notting Hill Gate into Oxford Circus takes around eight minutes.: Home Truths: - One loveable dog lives at this home. He won't be around during your stay, but this home may not be suitable for people with allergies. - There is adult-themed art in this home. - This home doesn't have air conditioning. Between june and september, we'll place fans in each bedroom. Please let us know if you'd like fans outside the summer period. - This home is spread over four floors with no internal elevator. - The fireplace in the main sitting room is ornamental. A working fireplace is in the second sitting room. - Please note we’ll check the lead guest’s I.D. and secure a £1,000 hold on a credit or debit card which will be released once we confirm no damage was caused during your stay.
