Melinda's Cottage 5 min walk to beach dogs welcome

A charming fisherman’s cottage with a private garden in the unspoilt Devon coastal village of Bucks Mills, near Clovelly - perfect for anyone looking to get away from it all and enjoy the natural surroundings. Stroll the 500m (5-minute) walk to the beach along a quiet no-through road down through the village. Here you'll find stretches of sand and rock pools exposed at low tide and plenty of pebbles to skim and stack. Dogs are welcome on the beach all-year round. Bucks Mills is a great choice for couples or families with children who are looking for a quiet beach to play and swim. It's also ideal if you enjoy walking and discovering nature. It's probably not the best choice of location if you want to be surrounded by a busy atmosphere and entertainment. However, there are plenty of things to see and do (and places to enjoy Devon's best local food) all within easy reach. There is no pavement or street lighting in Bucks Mills, so bring a torch if you want to explore after dark. The lack of street lighting does make the garden a great spot for star gazing on clear nights! The South West Coast path goes through the village and there are plenty of circular and woodland walks to explore from the door. There is a shop, stocking local products and everyday essentials at the top of the hill in Bucks Cross - a 30 minute walk along the lane or on footpaths through the woods. You'll also find a good choice of supermarkets and other shops, cafes and galleries in nearby Bideford. The popular Hoops Inn is around a 45-minute walk away from Melinda's, following footpaths through the woods, fields and quiet country lanes or you can drive in 5 minutes. The renowned Farmers Arms, Woolsery is a few miles inland from Melinda's - booking is advised - again a 5-10 minute drive away. Guests should be aware that the beach at Bucks Mills is reached via a steep path (tarmac) that is not suitable for all. There are no facilities at the beach, but North Devon's popular surf beaches, including Westward Ho!, Croyde and Bude are all easily accessible by car and offer surfboard hire and surf lessons. The private garden in front of the cottage offers plenty of space to enjoy ball games or for children to run around and let off steam. There's also a bench to sit back and read or watch the butterflies in the summer months. There is parking for one car in a lay-by shared by the three cottages in 'no through road' outside. Also, free public parking is available in the car park at the entrance of the village approximately 200m away. Bucks Mills is just off the Atlantic Highway, making it a good base for exploring North Devon and Cornwall. Tintagel, Dartmoor and Exeter are all within easy reach for a day trip. As well as the natural playground of the beach, there is a choice of theme parks for children nearby (the Big Sheep and the Milky Way) as well as the excellent North Devon Wake Park for wakeboarding and family fun at the aqua park (this is normally popular with teenagers too). Free WiFi in the cottage. Sleeps 4. Two bedrooms - 1 x kingsize bed and 2 x full length small singles (2'6" x 6'3"). All bed linen and towels supplied, but not beach towels. Bed linen is 100% Egyptian cotton and towels 100% cotton. Beds will be made up for when you arrive. Electric heater in main bedroom, convector heater in small bedroom. Kitchen, all electric cooker, fridge with ice box, microwave, washing machine. Well equipped with usual kitchen utensils etc. Sitting/dining room - TV, sofa and chair for 4 people, table and 4 chairs, books/games/radio, original range, electric heater. Please be aware that the range is very old and is used at our guest's own risk. (The range must only be used with eco-log wood briquettes, which are seasonally available in most local supermarkets and DIY stores or can be bought direct from various wood merchants). We provide a welcome pack including tea, coffee, milk and toilet paper for when you arrive. Bathroom - usual facilities including bath, over bath showerand electric heated towel rail.
