LOCATION Rural countryside location, just 10 minutes east of the medieval village of Najac and its 13th century castle. The house is on the outskirts of the charming village of St-Andre-de-Najac which has a very good restaurant (Relais Mont Le Viaur), a grocery store and post office. Gite Le Combal is ideally located for sightseeing (Cordes-sur-Ciel, Najac, Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val, Penne, Bruniquel, Albi, Gaillac - vineyards, Villefranche-de-Rouergue and the Aveyron gorges ). Saint-André-de-Najac: Mont Relais Viaur Restaurant with deli and hotel lies within a converted farmhouse on the edge of the village. The grocery store sells all the essentials as well as fresh bread, vegetables and a good selection of local wines and cheeses. The restaurant serves the traditional cuisine of the region for lunch and dinner as well as drinks and snacks on the terrace. The restaurant and grocery store are only a 2-minute drive or 15 minute walk from the property! La Fouillade: Shops - Intermarché with petrol station (24/24 self-service), cheese-shop, pharmacy. We also recommend the village butcher and bakery and those of Laguépie (pretty village to the south). These two villages are within 10 minutes drive. 20 minutes away, there are a choice of large supermarkets in the country town of Villefranche Rouergue with its impressive local market on Thursday mornings. REGION, AND CULTURAL LANDSCAPE Quercy-Rouergue in the west of Aveyron is a wild and undiscovered region. Our village lies on the crossroads of several diverse landscapes. Clean rivers, deep valleys, gorges, meadows, vineyards, arid rocky plateaus, dense woods and beautiful caves are all nearby. The medieval villages, bustling country markets, ancient castles and abbeys all bear witness to the history of this wild and beautiful area. Najac: The medieval village has long been considered "one of the most beautiful villages in France". The medieval Bastide contains a magnificent 13C fortress, craft shops, cafes and restaurants. We recommend wandering through the old cobbled streets and climbing up the tower of the fortress from where you have a fabulous view over the village. Regional specialties and local produce are served in the surrounding cafes and restaurants including: Roquefort cheese, local beef, veal and duck (duck breast, confit de canard), foie gras, walnuts, chestnuts, Regional dishes include: Aligot, Gâteau à la Broche, Astet Najacois the Estafinado and Aveyron Fouace ... See our property manual with tourist brochures for more info on restaurants, activities and attractions nearby. SPORTING ACTIVITIES St André de Najac is great for walking or cycling (mountain biking) though the woods on small rural tracks, mini-golf and tennis. Lagarde-Viaur 2km from the house has rock climbing, fishing and swimming in the river Viaur. We recommend a visit to the AAGAC Najac where you can hire mountain bikes, arrange guided mountain bike trips, rock climbing and canoeing trips and experience tree top zip wire assault courses for all ages. The AAGAC is located in Najac's campsite called "Le Païsserou" situated in the valley below the castle. PRICES 2018 Available for rent in May, June, July, August and September.
