La Torre Costantina
Tower "Costantina" in the historical center with suggestive panoramas
Located in the historic center of Forio, the house consists of a Saracen Tower dating back to 1500, as attested by the Superintendency for the Architectural Heritage of Naples. The tower is accessed through a suggestive colonnade that runs through the garden, which is shared with the owner's house. From the garden you enter, through a stone arch, into the private space of the Tower; a short driveway leads to the panoramic terrace which leads into the Tower. The wooden and glass entrance door opens onto the living room, with a sofa, a large table, an antique mahogany wardrobe and a kitchenette built into the thickness of the walls. A long staircase leads to the large bedroom, always round in shape, with a wooden beam ceiling; the room has two windows, one overlooking the village and has a magnificent view of the sea and sunsets, and the other on the opposite side which offers a view of Mount Epomeo. In the room there is a small bathroom with toilet and shower (always carved into the walls) and a lovely sink is visible in front of the bed. The tower offers a particular charm due to its history and location, but it is also a comfortable home. The south-west facing terrace is equipped with a table to have your meals with the splendid view over the historic center of the town and the Soccorso Church in the background of the sea, as well as a bench and a teak wood deckchair for afternoons. relaxing observing the sunset over the sea, the island of Ventotene and, if you are lucky, even the green ray. The interior furnishings are very refined with various details of Moroccan origin, the kitchen is equipped with a small refrigerator, sink and 4 burners; the bedroom has a large wardrobe and, in addition to the two windows, it has a trap door that opens onto the ceiling and allows you to refresh the Tower in case of hot weather. The temperature in the tower is however always pleasant due to the great thickness of the walls. This tower, one of the few circular and non-square, is called "Torre Costantina" and offered refuge to the inhabitants of the country, when the Turkish pirates invaded the island: from it they could also control access to 360 degrees thanks to the slits in the large walls , still visible even if closed on the outside. Although located in the historic center of Forio, the Tower is very quiet, no machine noise is heard, and yet the center of the village with the various shops and supermarkets can be reached in a few minutes on foot (400 meters).
