Speel is located on the second floor of the castle via a secret stone spiral staircase. This is a fabulous room with exposed original stonework reaching 5m high, a copper bath tub, an antique reupholstered kingsize bed, large Persian rug and a walk in turret shower room/WC. There are views towards Kilmartin Glen and a mix of antique furniture and great artworks. We would recommend you pack an overnight bag when booking this room as it can be tricky to get a large suitcase up the secret stair. Kilmartin Castle was built in 1550 for John Carswell, the Rector of Kilmartin, later Bishop of the Isles. It was held by the Campbell Clan, then abandoned for 200 years.
