Bruthen Cottage is comfortable three bedroom timber cottage in the country village of Bruthen in East Gippsland, at the junction of the Great Alpine Road and the (alternate) Princes Highway. The cottage is a splendid place to stop and rest while cycling the East Gippsland Rail Trail, exploring the Great Alpine Road or the Sydney Melbourne Coastal Drive, travelling to and from Mt Hotham’s ski fields or just looking for a quiet place to recharge for a few days. The front verandah overlooks the lush farmland of the Tambo River valley, while the spacious back patio looks into the large private garden. Inside the freshly renovated cottage has a calm, welcoming feel with polished timber floorboards, contemporary furniture, large living room with fireplace, huge kitchen/ dining room (with a bit of retro feel), 2 bathrooms, separate toilet and three bedrooms. Bruthen is a delightful village perched above the meandering Tambo River, with a wide treed village green down the centre of the main street which is lined with good places to eat. It is on the doorstep of both the Gippsland Lakes and the Victorian Alps: it is nicely placed between Melbourne (3 hours drive to the west), the gorgeous South Coast of NSW (3 hours to the east) and Canberra (5 hours to the north). Rooms and facilities Bruthen Cottage has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (1 also has laundry), separate toilet, living room, eat in kitchen, large covered outdoor area, garage and off street parking. The cottage comes provided with all bedding and towels. Bedroom 1: 1 x QS bed, chair which folds out to comfortable full sized single bed. (sleeps couple or 2 singles) Bedroom 2: 1 x bunk bed, plus single bed. (sleeps 3 as singles) Bedroom 3: 2 x single beds, or 1 x king size bed. ( sleeps 2 singles or 1 couple) Kitchen/ eating. A huge room reminiscent of a farmhouse kitchen, with a bit of a retro feel. Kitchen equipment and provisions include: Reverse cycle air conditioning - new May 2016 • Full sized electric stove and oven • Microwave • Coffee maker • Pots, pans, baking ware, microwaveable containers, utensils • Electric kettle, 4 slice toaster • Crockery and cutlery • Coffee, real and instant; tea – leaf and herbal teas; teapot. For real tea. • Basic provisions: extra virgin olive oil, salt, pepper, sugar; a little muesli, cereal, flour, pasta and rice. Milk in the fridge. ( let us know if you prefer soy to cow) Bruthen has an excellent butcher, a bakery and a general store that sells everything from red wine to fencing wire. Between them you can buy a few basics and with the provisions in the cottage easily put together a quick and simple meal at home. Living room: Comfortable squashy sofa and seats, Reverse cycle air conditioning - new May 2016, open fire, TV, DVD and sound system (CD, radio, Ipod and MP3/4 compatible) Solid sofa bed folds out to double (sleeps single or couple). This becomes a private bedroom with the living room a separate room off the hallway – not open plan. Bathroom 1: Newly built, with shower, hand basin and toilet. Bathroom 2 / laundry. Bath/ shower, hand basin, large washing machine and laundry tub. Toilet. As stated. Garage. Undercover parking, accessed from the side street. Not lockable. Access: The front door of the property is accessed from a verandah five steps above street level. The rear door of the property is one step up from the back patio, which is one step up from the garden path. The rear door is accessed from the street via a moderately sloping concrete path beside the house, with about three metres over level grass to the step onto the verandah. Access via the garage at the back of the house is via an uneven grassed walkway for about 20 metres, followed by four metres of concrete path. The cottage is on one level throughout the interior. Booking terms and conditions We ask for a 20% non refundable deposit on booking to confirm and hold your booking. The balance of payment is due one month prior to your stay. Cancellations. If you have to cancel your booking due to Covid restrictions, we will refund 100% of any accommodation fees paid (but not booking fees) Otherwise our normal cancellation policy below applies. If you cancel your booking one month or more before your stay, your 20% deposit is non refundable. One final payment is made one month prior to your stay it is non refundable, but may be transferred to another booking at our discretion.
