The 14th Century Knight's Chamber
PEACE, PRIVACY AND HISTORY—ALL WRAPPED UP IN A MAGICAL SETTING
Imagine traveling the same paths of the Knights of old, through picturesque villages such as ‘Le Temple’, Brittany’s center of activity for the Knights Templar, and just minutes from Le Mur. The idyllic and pastoral surroundings make you feel as though you must be moving through the work of a renowned Artist. Finally arriving at the highest point in the surrounding countryside you move down a long path of majestic fir trees along what was once the ancient Roman Road. At its end sits the inviting hamlet that is ‘Manoir du Mur’. These captivating stone structures built over the 13th to 15th centuries make up what was once a Medieval hamlet and still exist today as ‘Manoir du Mur’ and its adjacent out-buildings. This historic site has been lovingly renovated in keeping with its architectural and historical integrity, while at the same time offering 21st century amenities. Manoir du Mur includes 4 fully furnished ‘themed’ self-catering apartments, a medieval Dining Room/Hunter's Lodge, an 'Assembly Room' with stage, cinema, and fully equipped kitchen for catering, an ancient outdoor bread oven, and an artist studio and a 'Knight's Room'. The 14th Century Knight's Chamber/loft is situated in an authentic knight's guard house at Le Mur, located over the historic Roman Arch. The stone of the arch has an authentic Knight's Templar insignia etched into the ancient stone, and an opening for pouring hot soup, oil, or other such noxious concoctions to dispense upon an invading enemy. A stay in the 'Knight's Chamber' is sure to transport you back in time to the middle ages, where we have done our best to replicate what it would have been like to live like as a knight from that time. You will be surrounded by 'Medieval' furnishings, artifacts, costumes and armor. The sumptuous knight's bed (with 21st century mattress!) abounds with cozy sheep, reindeer and calf skins. During your stay you will be given access to the fully equipped Medieval kitchen/dining room, full bathroom with toilet, sink and shower, and laundry facilities that are located within the historic manoir. Additionally you will have access to the private forest, many trails, two lovely orchards, and 181 acres of rolling hills and meadows.
