Reviewed in Good Housekeeping February 2016 by Travel Editor David Wickers who hosted his father in laws 90th birthday here "It's perfect for a family celebration". Just two hours from London we've welcomed guests ranging in age from 2 months to almost 100 - so if you're looking for that special place where you can gather family and friends; relax, be together and make some special memories then we could be just the place. Stunning Elizabethan country house privately set in 17 acres on the edge of a Norfolk conservation village. Spacious and luxurious with a relaxed family feel this proper country house is perfect for family holidays, parties, celebrations, get-togethers or just getting away from it all. We offer The Old Hall on a self catering basis but can offer a full range of catering options to suit you ranging from a waitress served dinner cooked on site by a Michelin rated chef through to freshly cooked fish and chips to eat in the garden or around a roaring fire depending upon the season. There are lots of things to see and do in the area but if you prefer to stay closer to home we can arrange a host of activities to suit all ages in our extensive grounds - archery, shooting, bush craft for kids, tennis lessons or if you'd like to arrange something else then we're very happy to help. We've lived in Norfolk for 20 years so have some great contacts should you want to do something very special whether it's coastal exploration on traditional boats, wildlife trips on the Norfolk Broads, pub and paddle canoe trails, private tours of award winning local vineyards or something more high octane - just let us know. If you prefer to organise your own fun there is plenty to do both outside or in with woods to explore, dens to build and cupboards full of family games to suit all ages. We have an outdoor heated swimming pool which is available from May until the end of September. There is tennis, croquet and ping-pong for the competitive or if you prefer to be pampered a Champneys trained beauty therapist can visit the house. We sleep up to 18 in 8 bedrooms - ideally 14 adults and 4 children. Our bedrooms are arranged as follows: 3 very large super-king / king with en-suites, 2 with dressing rooms (which can accommodate 'put up beds') 2 doubles 2 twins - one of which can be a super-king funky attic dorm sleeping 4 - full sized beds but decor more suited to children / teenagers although lots of adults have slept there too family bathroom plus extra loo We also have two additional loos downstairs. All beds have Egyptian cotton linen and we leave Noble Isle shower gels and soaps for guests. We can provide travel cots and have 3 additional 'put up beds' available on request at an additional cost. We have a couple of high chairs too. You enter the house through the original oak studded front door which leads to the Great Hall with a beautiful 17th Century oak inlaid fireplace. This is an incredibly atmospheric room especially when lit by candle light in the evening. Our main dining table is here, it seats 16 but can be extended to seat 22. There are 3 more reception rooms including the drawing room with an enormous 15th Century open fireplace, the panelled yellow sitting room with French windows leading to the croquet lawn and a very large sitting room overlooking the gardens with French windows leading to the terrace. Additionally there is a small library and a housekeepers sitting room which has been turned into a children's chill out room with easy access to an enclosed courtyard. The large country style kitchen has an electric 4 oven aga, seating for 6 and an extensive range of cookery books. In addition we have an electric hob and oven. As you would expect there is a laundry room, a traditional pantry and a boot room. Two staircases lead to the first floor. The master bedroom suite - with a super-king bed has spectacular views over the gardens and comprises both a shower room and a bathroom / dressing room. There are two large additional bedrooms of historical interest - a king and a super-king - both with en-suite bathrooms along with a twin bedded room and a room containing an original 17th Century four poster bed. On the third floor there is a double room with an original French bed, a bedroom than can either be a twin or a super-king, a family bathroom and an attic room with a children's dorm sleeping up to 4 - these are full sized beds with good quality mattresses but the decor is slightly funky and is really aimed at children / teenagers. Also located in the attic is a home cinema with a sofa, bean bags, an extensive DVD library and of course popcorn! Apologies but we are unable to accept stag or hen parties unless this is agreed in advance by our insurance company so do let us know if this is the purpose of your stay. Apologies we aren't set up to host full scale weddings but if you interested in a more intimate 'Home from Home Wedding' then we'd love to talk about how we could help.
