After a 10-minute drive down the coast you can admire the famous architecture of the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill, the birthplace of British motor racing. Or a 10-minute drive the other way will take you into the heart of Hastings, a vibrant town where modern amenities meet history. Explore the medieval Old Town with its quirky independent shops, bars and restaurants, enjoy traditional seaside fun at the promenade with amusements and an aquarium, or step back in time and explore the ancient caves used by smugglers or Hastings castle. For an even deeper dive into history, the town of Battle is just beyond Hastings, built around the famous Battle Abbey and battlefield where King Harold fought William the Conqueror in 1066. The ruins and visitors centre provides a fun day out for all the family. 35 minutes’ drive away is Rye, a beautiful old town with its castle, art galleries, quirky shops and quaint cobbled streets.
