Cosy period cottage for 2-4 guests
18th century flint cottage in Arundel
Challenge Cottage is an appealing period holiday cottage close to Arundel Castle and the centre of town which sleeps 2-4 guests. The cottage is bursting with all the charm of a genuine 18th century cottage but has been carefully refurbished to be both pretty and very comfortable. Guests will enjoy the attractive living room with electric woodburner (no flames) and comfy seating for 4. There is a smart TV and wifi. The living room leads onto a country kitchen with oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher and washer/dryer. There is a small table in the kitchen which seats up to 4 guests. To the rear of the cottage the charming courtyard garden with outside seating area enables guests to enjoy the sunshine on a warm day. On the first floor is a light and airy double bedroom and bathroom. The second floor has a double bedroom with views towards Arundel Castle. Linen and towels are included and beds are made up for your visit. Please be aware that Arundel cottages are notorious for quite steep stairs and for this reason we suggest that this cottage is not suitable for those with mobility problems and children under 12. There is no private parking at the cottage but there are 1 hour parking spots directly opposite the cottage. For longer term parking there is a car park less than a minute’s walk from the house tucked away behind the houses opposite (£5 per day) or if you prefer to park for free this can be done by parking on Mill Road beyond the castle. There is so much to do in Arundel town itself that you will find that you don’t need a car unless you want to sightsee further afield. There is the majestic Arundel Castle to be explored as well as Arundel Cathedral, the museum, Arundel Lido, mini golf, tennis, bowls and river trips all within a 5 minute walk of Challenge Cottage. For those who enjoy shopping there are wonderful antique shops all over town and gift shops in both the High Street and Tarrant Street. There are an abundance of cafes and restaurants all within a few minutes’ walk and a fabulous deli and butcher just around the corner as well as a general provisions’ store a few doors down from the cottage. If you walk past the Castle down a leafy promenade you will reach Swanbourne Lake where you can hire a rowing boat, feed the ducks and swans or stroll all around the lake. Wildlife enthusiasts will also enjoy The Wetlands Centre a little further on to see a multitude of bird wildlife in their natural habitat or you can walk up through Arundel Park to enjoy the magnificent countryside and views over the South Downs. A little further afield Clymping beach is a 15 minute drive from Arundel and there are Roman ruins, National Trust gardens and local places of interest in abundance within easy striking distance. Brighton is approximately 45 minutes away as is Portsmouth should you be interested in the famous historic dockyards or enjoy outlet shopping. For those who love outdoor life the walks over the South Downs are quite breath-taking but for those who prefer more sedentary entertainment Chichester Festival Theatre is one of the UK’s flagship theatres, renowned for the exceptionally high standard of its productions.
