Porth y Dŵr - the Secret House!
Porth y Dŵr - the Secret House! One of the oldest houses in Ruthin
Listed Grade II* as an exceptional medieval timber framed building , Porth y Dŵr genuinely is a unique holiday cottage. It has been restored to an exceptionally high standard without losing the character and integrity borne of its centuries of history. On the ground floor the open plan living room is the heart of the medieval building, with original 15th century oak posts and beams creating a cosy space for sitting around the real fire, a large dining area with table seating 6, and a snug. Underfloor heating and comfortable furniture make this a place to relax, and books, games and jigsaws are available to enjoy with fellow guests. Through the Gothic arched doorway is a fully fitted kitchen. There is a private courtyard at the rear with table and chairs, and a small garden at the front. The first floor has a characterful master bedroom with king-size bed, and an en suite bathroom; for families only an extra single bed can be provided by request (and additional charge). The second bedroom has 2 single beds. There is a separate WC, and a large family bathroom with bathtub and shower. Porth y Dŵr has been carefully renovated using traditional methods and ecological materials that give it a delightfully tranquil feel, and it is comfortably furnished to reflect the historic nature of the house . The aim is to create space and an atmosphere of calm, to allow guests to relax and recharge, and to enjoy the company of fellow guests. Take a technology detox at the Secret House - there is no TV, although wifi is available for those who can't bear to be unconnected. Dogs are welcome, but Porth y Dŵr is not suitable for groups, and a strict no smoking policy is in force. Ruthin lies at the centre of the beautiful Vale of Clwyd, close to the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With over 800 years of history, this pretty market town has many listed buildings, winding streets with individual shops, friendly pubs and good restaurants, and also the thoroughly modern Craft Centre, Wales' foremost centre for the applied arts. The stunning surroundings cater for all tastes, from castles and culture, beaches and child-friendly activities, walking - with or without your doggy friends - to a huge variety of adventure sports for adrenalin junkies.
