Villa Petrea

It’s a typically Tuscan view that spreads out before you as you lie by the large private pool at Villa Petrea – cypress trees, rows of grapevines and hills rolling away to the horizon. Ideal for groups of up to 18 friends or family, who wish to explore the delights of Tuscany. Inside, the traditional reigns: expect terracotta-tiled floors and beamed ceilings throughout, with some impressive antique furnishings and a large stone fireplace in the main lounge and dining area at the heart of the house. The eight double bedrooms, spread out over three floors, can easily accommodate large groups. All come with an en-suite bathroom, TV and their own countryside view. A couple even feature mezzanine floors – the perfect hideaway for a child’s single bed. In a region of such cultural riches, some exploring will undoubtedly be on the agenda. Arezzo is just a 40-minute drive away and Florence and Siena a little further. Alternatively, why not leave the car at home and enjoy walking in to the small town of Bucine, with its local shops and cafes, to taste a little of the local life. Our thoughts There’s an abundance of space here, with plenty of different areas to sit out, whether you prefer basking in the sun or chilling in the shade. The house has three lounge areas and two beautiful terraces, while in the gardens you can choose between the pool terrace, pergolas and well-kept lawns, chill out in the wellness area, with its Jacuzzi and steam room, or sink a few balls on the villa’s own putting green. Notes The tower bedroom is not indicated on the floor plans. Use of the wellness centre is included in the price. On Monday to Saturday, 9.30am-12.30pm, three hours’ maid service is included in the price. Pool Metal ladder steps at one each lead into the large pool, which is set to one side of the villa, looking across the garden to olive groves and the Tuscan hills beyond. The pool is surrounded by a paved terrace furnished with sun beds, which leads to lawn. A pergola shading a table and chairs provides shade. Pool size: 7m x 14m, 1.5m deep, open mid-April to October, weather permitting.
