Quinta do Pombal Douro

Encrusted as the jewel in a ring of 5 hectares of cherry trees, the birth place of the very first cherries in Europe, the house gazes over the stunning landscape of the Douro River, a privileged Unesco World Heritage Site. The violence of ragged hills and slate rock tamed by man, hundreds of years ago, into soft, meandering steps that gently lead the eye to the calm waters of this true river of gold. A shrine to nature, peace and the simple comforts of ancient times. Airy and bright 4 bedroom house, one of them a suite, decorated in a clean, modern style, with spacious common areas and all the required amenities for comfort and practicality. Access via a wide farm gate, through a private road bordered by century old olive trees leading to ample parking space in the area around the house. High up on a hill overlooking the river below, the 360º views are amazing year long, but especially so in March during the flowering of the cherry trees that cover the grounds in white, and in April and May when harvest is underway. Guests have access to the entire house except for a locked storage space and downstairs garage where farm machinery is stored. Owners reside in a separate property just outside of the grounds and are available at a moment's notice at all times. No neighbours, single house surrounded by 5 hectares of orchards. Numerous paths throughout the estate for meditative walks among the cherry trees. Great base camp to visit Peso da Régua (12km), and enjoy traditional food, the best wines and Ports. Lamego (8.5km), with its castle, numerous other monuments and museums and the stunning stairway that leads to the Shrine of Our Lady of Remedies is also a wonderful place to visit. Good paved roads in either direction. The A24 highway close by opens up further opportunities for adventures such as the beaches in the greater Oporto area (128km) or further inland towards Viseu (69km) and beyond. From May to July come sample our Quinta do Pombal cherries. A freshly picked basket will be waiting for you upon arrival.
