Bedroom (private) Family Bathroom and Cloakroom Toilet (shared) Kitchen/ Dining Room/ Secondary living area (all open plan) Garden I reside at the property and am more than happy to provide a ‘tea and cake’ welcome for guests, whilst respecting social distancing, and help them with information and ideas about the area to make their stay as fulfilling as possible. I have lived in London for 20 years as an Arts Event Manager/ Theatre Stage Manager and know all about the importance of solid customer experience- usually in arts venues. I am trustee of the Subscription Rooms (the local venue in Stroud) and like to keep tabs on all the interesting events happening in and around the area. My airbnb in London has taken in over 300 guests since 2014 and I have been a Super Host continuously for the last three years having received wonderful reviews. I am also on the Stroud Tourist Forum. Occasionally, I have to head back to London but guests will be given self check in details if I am unable to check them in personally. Self check in is also available as an option for social distancing Please note that some elements mentioned below may not be open due to Covid-19, or may be operating at a limited capacity/ doing an alternative take-away service. During lockdown, I have had the chance to do many more walks from the house and can thoroughly recommend many routes (in addition to the ones already mentioned below). Any visitor to Stroud really needs to visit the Farmers Market on Saturday morning for takeaway food/ food stalls. Its been voted the best local market in the UK and its about to get bigger! Stroud is very much the country version of alternative places such as Camden, Notting Hill or Shoreditch- it’s a quirky, quixotic, bohemian town with very strong community roots and local free trade shops including art and vintage shops. It has a HUGE amount of artists living in and around the environs. It was voted several times as one of Britain's best places to live in a recent Sunday times article. Stroud is indeed, incredibly special and definitely embodies the 'hidden' bohemian more authentic experience of the Cotswolds. There are always festivals or events, from literature, art to theatre taking place throughout the year. The many mills are part of Stroud’s Industrial Past and house a bustle of workspace sharing co-operatives, artists studios, vintage and fair/ free trade shops, upholstery and jewellery making workshops. Many guests visit to take part in these workshops to experience this rich arts and crafts heritage. A short 10 minute walk from the house is a wonderfully authentic real ale typically British pub called ‘The Crown and Sceptre’- call in for a great Sunday roast. Other notable nearby establishments to visit are The Subscription Rooms, Giffords Circus, Westonbirt Arboretum, Stroud Valley Artspace, Pangolin Gallery, Hawkwood College (for workshops). Minchinhampton Common is a beautiful common ground area where cattle roam freely across the roads and amongst golfers There are many walks right from the doorway of the house. The Heavens is one beautiful area to explore as is the Stroud micro Brewery Walks to Rodborough Common across the Valley with great views of the river Severn and Wales and a visit to Winstones Ice Cream factory is a must. The Cotswold Way is near by, as are walks to Slad to visit the Woolpack, frequented by the famous author Laurie Lee. For those requiring a flatter walk – take in the beautifully restored Cotswold Canals with access from the towpath to unique pubs and cafes. Plenty of great restaurants in and around the area- I particularly recommend the Bell Inn at Selsey, Tonis kitchen in Middle Street or the Diner in Nelson Street. Painswick, the queen of the Cotswolds, Tetbury, Cirencester, Cheltenham, Bath and Bristol are also definitely worth a visit and are all within easy driving distance from Stroud. The house is located up a hill, not too steep but a good 20 minute walk or a 5 minute drive from Stroud Train Station or from the Merry Walks Bus Stop where the coaches drop off from London. Due to Covid 19- I will be unable to operate a pick up/ drop off car service. Trains leave London Paddington and take approx. 1.5 hours. Driving from London takes 2.5 hours. The Coaches leave London Victoria and take from 3.5 hours- definitely the most budget friendly way of getting to Stroud. 5 miles from the M5, 28 miles from the M4 Parking for one car is available on the roadway. On some occasions (and if the other listing in the house- the master bedroom is unoccupied) off street parking can be available next to the garage at the top of the drive- this would be confirmed a day prior to your stay. COVID - 19 UPDATE: Stay Safe from Coronavirus. The Hidden House is committed to keeping your safety in mind. We may be keeping a respectful distance, but that does not mean we cannot be sociable. Our operating procedures provide as safe an environment as we can and allows us to deliver the friendly personal service we have become known and rated for. Our policies follow government guidelines. Summary: • We have implemented procedures that respect social distancing without being anti-social. • We have reduced the chance of the virus ever entering the property by allowing people who are concerned they have the virus to cancel and re- schedule free of charge. • Our check in procedure allows the option of self-check in and therefore promotes safe distancing but also giving you the information needed for a great stay. • Basic self-service breakfast will still be provided. Time slots will operate. • We have always had very high cleaning standards (please see reviews from past guests) but we will be elevating this further- allowing extra careful sanitising in areas that you are most likely to touch such as light switches and door handles etc. We are stepping up our cleaning regime. • We have increased airflow throughout as is recommended to dissipate water droplets that can transmit the virus • Sanitising stations are located throughout the property • Payment will be made online and prior to stay commencing A more detailed explanation of our policies and a risk assessment is available. Please ask at the enquiry stage for more details. IMPORTANT - the walk into Stroud is approx 15 mins downhill for average fitness. The walk back from town is not a steep hill but its long- all uphill and takes about 20-30 mins. Taxis or a Bus (no 8) from town are recommended for those guests less able bodied (I can further advise on this). A very handsome Basset Hound Pup called 'Berkeley' or 'Barkers' is in residence at the property. Berkeley is 2.5 years -is big and very friendly but can get a tad over excited. He is not allowed upstairs near the bedrooms in the day but does sleep in my room at night. Please take note before booking if you have an issue with dogs, allergies or this particular breed.
