The Limes is a beautifully presented country house only 35 miles from London in Buckinghamshire with 1.5 acres of stunning mature gardens and an outdoor heated swimming pool with wooden real-fire hot tub. Set in the depths of the Chiltern Hills just outside Great Missenden village (the home of Roahl Dahl) this nestled valley position has stunning views across fields and hills and glorious sunsets through the season. Relax, sit back and enjoy the peace and quiet of this cozy rural location. The Limes is a large, comfortable and spacious (sleeps 10) country house set in 1.5 acres of manicured gardens and grounds. The house sits in a quiet rural location with no visible neighbours but is only 1 mile from Great Missenden (trains to Marylebone every 30 minutes) and benefits from fantastic west facing views across the Chiltern Hills and a heated outdoor swimming pool and 8 person wooden Hot Tub (pool area is seasonal - open from May to September). Recently redecorated to a high standard with a new bathroom suite, new carpets, wood floors and a new twin bedroom the house has a charming country feel with all the amenities you could possibly need. BEDROOMS: There is enough room for 10 guests (5 couples sharing). There are 4 bedrooms (3 double beds in 3 bedrooms & 1 bedroom with 2 single beds) in the main part of the house. The 5th bedroom is in the summer house in the garden with a double bed and central heating. It has it's own entrance from the garden area but no bathroom. This room is recommended for use from May-October but is available during the winter months if absolutely necessary. PLEASE NOTE: Guests in the Summer House use the main house bathrooms. HOUSE & GARDEN: The Summer house is situated in the garden by the veggie patch. There are multiple games of Croquet, Badminton, Rounders, Cricket, Football etc. that can be found in the Games Box at the bottom of the large lawn. There is a trampoline (no net - please supervise children) in the garden. There is also a BOULE Court for those who like a game of 'Petanque' next to the Summer House. The house is close to footpaths accessible through a gate at the top of the garden which leads to a lovely circular walk around the local stud farm where there are numerous horses, alpacas, donkeys and a large black pig. There is also a footpath that takes you up onto the famous Ridgeway path that runs the length of The Chiltern Hills and passes through Combe Hill (noted in the 100 Best Views in England book by Simon Jenkins). The house has a large outside patio area with a large gas fired BROIL KING BBQ and a wood/charcoal fired SMOKER BBQ. There is also a fire-pit on the patio and a large outdoor fireplace by the pool for those who like a fire outdoors at night. The large round wooden table with parasol seats 8 for alfresco dining and the decked pergola seats 10 and has stunning views of the valley & fields. There are many other outside seating areas plus a couple of swings in the large chestnut tree. There is also a swing bench & a whicker swing chair under the willow tree. The kitchen at The Limes is large and very well equipped with everything you might need including a large double module AGA for all your family needs. The table in the kitchen seats 8 people and the dining room can seat 10. Please note you will need bags of logs for your stay if you wish to heat the hot tub furnace or use the wood burning fireplaces & Smoker BBQ. If you would like wood provided please ask in advance and I can organise them for you. Logs are £7 & Kindling £6 p/bag from the local garden centre. As we live at the property we will be here to assist you if there is anything you need including local knowledge on places to visit and great local pubs and how things work at The Limes. We give you total privacy if you prefer and you will have exclusive use of the house and rooms listed... but we are also happy to socialise and get to know people travelling from around the world. Access to the house is via a double driveway with plenty of parking for a number of cars. We will be here to check you in, however if we're away we will instruct each guest about key access in the lock-box or a friend will let you in. Guests have access to all the spaces listed: Large family living room inc 45" SONY HD TV with SKYQ and all movie channels Large family dining room seating 10 comfortably Large family kitchen with AGA and kitchen table for 8 people 1 large master bedrooms with en-suite (+ TV & SkyQ) 2 Double bedrooms + 1 twin room with 2 single beds 2 Bathrooms (1 is en-suite) both with baths and showers 1 Downstairs WC Summer house with large double bed (this room is separate from the house) Access to all 1.5 acres of gardens including Boule Court and games field area with large trampoline, croquet & badminton. Pool area with multiple seating areas including dining table for 8 plus an 8 person wooden hot tub. There is an outdoor fire place / BBQ in the pool area for al fresco dining. Patio area with large round table seating 8 6 Burner Gas BBQ & Large (real fuel) Smoker BBQ Covered Pergola seating area for 10 people Other outdoor seating areas; swing bench and swing whicker chair under the willow tree and 2 x teak benches at the end of the lawn. For more information the manual in the hall has everything you need to know. Myself or someone will undoubtedly be onsite or nearby during your stay as we live at the property in a separate area. Any information or help you might need please feel free to ask and we'll be happy to assist you with the house or anything to do with the local area. There are a number of wonderful things to experience in the area most notably some beautiful villages, walks and exceptional pubs. A list of these and their contact details will be provided on arrival in the 'Information Manual'. There is a cork board in the utility room with further information and a rack of pamphlets in the kitchen with various things to do and see plus many OS walking maps of the area. If any visitors would like to experience a 'Balloon Ride' across the Chiltern Hills this can be organised (weather & season permitting). POINTS OF INTEREST: The famous Roalh Dahl Museum is close-by in Great Missenden and a great thing to do with kids. Odds Farm & Bekonscot Model Village are a 20 min drive away near Beaconsfield and perfect for families. Waddesdon Manor (NT) is a must see Rothschild stately home and open to the public. Coombe Hill is a local monument walk with phenomenal views. There is a local company who offer Hot Air Balloon rides during the season (please ask if you'd like to book this in advance). PUBS & RESTAURANTS: There is a list of local pubs, restaurants and points of interest when you arrive but here are a few of my favourite pubs to start you off... The Royal Standard of England Pub - Forty Green nr Beaconsfield (the oldest free-house in England at 980 years old) is a must when in the area. A 15 minute drive but well worth it. The Nags Head - Great Missenden The Full Moon - Little Kingshill The Old Swan - Swan Bottom The Polecat Inn - Prestwood The Red Lion - Little Missenden The Russell Arms - Butlers Cross (Coombe Hill walk nearby) The Plough - Cadsden (great circular walk) The Cross Keys - Great Missenden OLD AMERSHAM - only 5 miles away and has 5 excellent pubs: The Elephant & Castle The Saracens The Kings Arms The Swan Inn The Eagle RESTAURANTS in Great Missenden (we mostly eat in the Pubs ;) Sukhothai - Thai in Great Missenden New Akash - Indian in Great Missenden There are also a host of great places to eat in Old Amersham: The Crown Hotel Artichoke (Michelin starred restaurant) Gilbey's restaurant (excellent food) Cote Brasserie Ask Pizza Prezzo Seasons Cafe and Deli The Grocer *The Sir Charles Napier - Michelin Star pub/restaurant in Chinnor is a little further away than our local spots but definitely a must if you want to splash out !! Great Missenden is the home of the world famous Roald Dahl museum, while Peterley Farm Shop (3 miles away) offers pick-your-fruit, a great farm shop and a lovely restaurant in their "pop-up" yurt! Beaconsfield is 10 miles away and High Wycombe is 7 miles. WALKS There are many walks in the area that join the famous South Bucks Way & Ridgeway path. Coombe Hill is probably one of the most spectacular views anywhere in the Chiltern Hills. Most walks (if followed correctly) take to one of our local pubs. There are OS Maps available at the house if you need them. It is recommended you have a car during your stay to get around. There are plenty of local cab companies should you require. Numbers will be provided on arrival and are also on the notice board in the kitchen. If any guests are arriving by train we can provide you with local cab company names or where possible we can pick you up from Great Missenden station. Please let us know if you need collecting. Trains leave London Marylebone every 30 minutes and the journey time is 40 minutes into Great Missenden which is only 1 mile away.
