Quiet, dog-friendly, Garden Cottage in 2000 acres
Dog-friendly, the Wee Bothy is within the gardens of a 2000 acre working estate in open countryside yet only 10 mins to Kilmarnock, 20 mins to Ayr & Troon and 30 mins from Glasgow. Quietly located by the potting sheds, alongside the walled garden, the cottage is cosy and is set up for every eventuality and is a home away from home if you're here to work. The Wee Bothy is an old, groundsman's cottage on the edge of the Walled Garden. There is a small sunny garden and terrace to the front with adjacent parking. The garden has a table and chairs on a sunny terrace with a BBQ & fire pit. There is a double bedroom with ample storage, bathroom, sitting room and a separate kitchen with dining. Guests can enjoy the fabulous surrounding gardens. Close to the herbaceous garden and Burmese ponds, guests can potter about at leisure. The main house has a tennis court which may be available free of charge by prior request. (It just depends who's staying at the main house). There are several large pools in the river for fishing/swimming. We also have a pond with trout fishing on request. The cottage has a cosy sitting room which overlooks the garden. There is a TV, DVD and dvd library. There's also Scrabble and Backgammon. The hall has a washing/drying machine, additional storage with iron & board, safe and ample cleaning supplies to keep you going. The kitchen is well equipped with a hob/oven/fridge/freezer/toaster/coffee machine and a sound doc/radio alarm for iPhone. For your convenience, we supply the cottage with Graham's milk & butter from our own Jersey cows, eggs, bread, tea, coffee and some pantry basics for your arrival. If you are vegan, please let us know in advance so we organise alternatives. The bathroom has a bath with a hand-held telescopic shower. There are plenty of fresh towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap and loo paper. You will find the bedroom quiet and comfortable with plenty of hanging space, bathrobes and a hairdryer. The bed is made with White Company bedding. This includes feather topper, duvet and pillows. If you do have allergies, please let us know before and we can change to anti-allergy bedding. Dog baskets and bowls are available. We charge a small extra fee of £20 if you are bringing a dog which covers regular extra cleaning. Whilst we can at a push put an extra bed for a child in the sitting room, it will be tight. A baby cot can be placed in the bedroom and a high chair is available. We charge a supplement of £20 per stay if required. If you are staying for a week or longer and would like mid-week clean & bed linen change, please let us know at the time of booking. There is a small supplement of £25 including linens. The cottage stands alone on part of a working estate. We ask all guests to respect the privacy of other homes and guests on the Estate. The main house is our family home and not open to the public. The historic, prize-winning gardens are occasionally open to the public as part of the Scottish Garden Scheme. From October 1 to 31 January, we have regular shoots. Whilst you will not be disturbed by this if you're not in favour, the Wee Bothy may not be for you. We live about 500m from the cottage. We can be available for help or advice during your stay. We can also help in the run up to your stay if you need any suggestions on touring, dining or golf. The cottage is set quietly by the Walled Garden. The nearest towns are Kilmarnock, Troon, Prestwick and Ayr with a wide choice of supermarkets and shops. Glasgow is 35 minutes by car and Edinburgh 90 mins. There are many top golf course within a short drive, the closest Dundonald Links is home to the Scottish Open and Ladies Scottish Open. Royal Troon, Western Gailes, Prestwick and Turnberry are all easily accessible. For Robbie Burns aficionados, there are a number of museums and walking tours within a short drive. We highly recommend a day-trip to Arran on the ferry. There is an excellent distillery to tour. The nearest train station is Kilmarnock. Our nearest airports are Prestwick (15mins) and Glasgow (35 mins). Staying at the cottage, you really do need a car although we can arrange to pick you up if needed. If you are cycling around Scotland, there is a safe and dry space for your cycles close to the Wee Bothy. The cottage is part of a working Estate with 2000 acres of gardens, parkland and farms. The shooting season takes place from 1 Oct to 31 January and although none of the drives are near the cottage this is part of our way of life so if it's not to your taste, the cottage may not be for you. You are welcome to bring a dog/cat but please keep in mind we're on a farm so if you're in the fields you need to use a lead.
