Close to surfing spot ‘Main Point’, Tharanga’s is a nice, simple place to call home while you learn how to surf or chill on the beach. The price is for an entire apartment, consists of two rooms on the second floor of the home Tharanga lives in with his family. We are committed to maintaining Airbnb’s enhanced cleaning & other Covid precautions approved by local authorities, to make sure that you have a safe and memorable stay with us. Longer stays on the entire basis is preferred. Tharanga’s homestay (a.k.a. Rivinu Place, named after his baby boy) consists of two rooms on the second floor of the home Tharanga lives in with his family. Accessible via a separate entrance, the two guest rooms share a hall, kitchen and balcony that overlooks the garden filled with coconut, mango and banana trees. And also there's two newly built cabana type rooms. A nice, affordable place to camp down for a while. The two guest rooms share a open hall, kitchen and balcony; everything private. Tharanga is a traditional fisherman. He owns two boats that he takes out into the Arugam Bay each day to catch the fish he sells on the local market. Two years ago he and his wife Pradeepa created two rooms for guests on the second floor of their home, to supplement their income. It’s quite a change from fishing to hosting, but they’re catching up quickly, as they can arrange all kinds of tours and transportation and Tharanga’s got motor bikes for rent. The Arugam Bay - Pottuvil area has seen a dramatic increase in tourism over the last few years. Long known among surfers as Sri Lanka’s go-to surf destination, it was only after 2010 that tourists started flooding in. Don’t worry, this is still Eastern Sri Lanka, so Starbucks and Burger King are nowhere near, but especially Arugam Bay, with it’s wide range of hotels, restaurants, bars and a small but serious surfer scene, really developed into a traveller boomtown. You’ll see the fishing boats and surfers everywhere. Nearby Pottuvil is slowly catching up, which is great for those who like the surf, but have heard Bob Marley before. Most people visit between April and October, but this part of Sri Lanka has much more to offer, such as the 2000 year-old Muhudu Maha Viharaya Temple and the famous National Parks of Yala, Gal Oya and Kumana. Tharanga’s is close within 100 metres from one of the main surf spots place called Main Point. Elephant and Crocodile surfing point are about 2-3 kilometres away. We are committed to maintaining Airbnb’s Protocol on COVID-19 prevention, such as the use of personal protective equipment, like masks and gloves, as well as disinfectants that are approved by local regulatory authorities. Further, we keep our home empty for a set period in between stays, with no activity other than cleaning, to make sure that you have a safe and memorable stay with us. Longer stays on the entire basis is preferred.
