Mas St. Joseph - Studio Apartment

Built in 1790, Mas St. Joseph was the living quarters for the adjacent monastery. Much of its original character remains but with the added comfort of a beautiful Moroccan style courtyard/patio area with swimming pool, perfect for balmy evenings. On the top floor of the Mas, with views to both Canigou and Les Aspres is the Studio Catalan which has a mezzanine level with 2 single beds. With a couple sleeping on the king size bed in the main room, the maximum sleeping capacity is 4 persons. As well as a compact shower room/WC, there is a dining table and a kitchenette with fridge, microwave/oven, electric kettle, and induction hotplate. There is also a summer kitchen on the outside patio with BBQ and plaxa. Entertainment in the studio includes a wide screen TV with satellite channels, a pull down cinema screen and a DVD player connected to a ceiling mounted digital projector. The room also has a small library a comfortable sofa and two very relaxing beanbags! In view of the stairs to the mezzanine, the studio is not suitable for the elderly, the disabled, or children. The low sloping roof in the mezzanine should also be taken into account with regard to access to the beds. Guests have access to the swimming pool and adjacent patio. Breakfast and packed lunches can be provided at additional cost. Evening meals can also be provided on request either on the patio or indoors. Both Adrian and Kate are available to offer advice about things to do and places to visit in the area, and also enjoy swapping stories about travel into remote and far flung places. Both Adrian and Kate speak French (and a few words of Spanish!). Set amidst peach orchards, with views of the foothills and distant ridges of Mount Canigou, Mas St. Joseph is a haven of peace. A delightful stroll or bike ride through the orchards takes you to the picturesque town of Ille-sur-Tet. A half-hour drive east takes you to Perpignan and lovely Mediterranean beaches, and to the west lie the majestic Pyrenees. With Cathar country to the north and Spain just an hour's drive south, the region abounds with things to see & do. Mas St. Joseph is easily accessible by vehicle via the dual carriageway from Perpignan to Ille-sur-Tet. Free car parking is available at the property. There are beautiful walks up into the hills, or through the peach orchards, starting directly from the house. Bikes are available for rent to explore the area on two wheels. Mas St. Joseph is also well served by public transport. A 20 minute walk brings you to Ille-sur-Tet station where for €1 you can take the train or bus into Perpignan or all the way up the Tet Valley to Villefranche-sur-Conflent. We have two small dogs who are very friendly and full of fun and two cats.
