Enchanting, welcoming period cottage in an elevated location near the heart of the iconic Cheddar Gorge, within the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in north Somerset. A beautifully appointed 200 year old cottage carefully renovated to provide a balance of period features and some modern touches. With a generous kitchen/dining area, a large sitting room with wood burner downstairs, and two double bedrooms and family bathroom upstairs, there's plenty of space for four. A fully equipped kitchen / dining room to seat four and a generous sitting room, featuring a wood burner for the cooler nights downstairs. The sitting room has comfortable seating for four, a TV with freeview and a DVD player. There is also a useful enclosed, roofed courtyard space with a flagstone floor providing storage for boots, bicycles and walking gear. Upstairs two beautifully appointed double bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with twin beds and a generous sized family bathroom with bath and shower over. All linen is provided. This charming cottage will give you a cosy home from home at anytime of the year. Note: Please note that as this is traditional country cottage, some of the doorways and ceiling heights are quite low by modern standards. If you are taller than 6ft/1.9m in height, you may find yourself having to bend down through doorways. (To provide some reassurance, we have had guests of over 6ft 5 inches stay at the cottage, who enjoyed their stay and seemed to cope with the dimensions.) You have exclusive use of the cottage during your stay. Either Dave, Dawn or possibly both will answer any questions you have about the cottage and your stay. Situated a short walk from the heart of the astonishing natural wonder that is the Cheddar Gorge, you are within easy walking distance of all the main tourist attractions in Cheddar: Gough's Cave, Jacob's Ladder, The Museum Of Prehistory, The Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company, Cheddar Crazy Golf and Escape Rooms Cheddar. There are also opportunities to try rock climbing or just enjoy the amazing scenery. At almost 400ft (122m) deep and 3 miles (4.8km) long, Cheddar Gorge is England's largest gorge, and with its weathered crags and pinnacles, a spectacular natural sight. There is plenty of wildlife including feral goats and the area is ideal for bird-watching. The area is excellent for cyclists and walkers. Strawberry Cottage is a short walk from both the gorge and the village. You have a wide choice of cafes, restaurants, pubs, tea rooms, ice cream parlours, take aways to tempt your tastebuds whilst taking in the breathtaking scenery. There are three pubs within a five to ten minute walk from the cottage. There is a small grocery store within a five to ten minute walk away and a larger Sainsburys Supermarket about a five minute drive away. The gorge is in the Mendip Hills and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is also close to Chew Valley Lake. All less than an hour's drive are the beautiful cities of Bath, Wells and Bristol and the fascinating towns of Glastonbury, Street. The seaside at Weston Super Mare or Brean Down are half an hour away. Cheddar is best reached by car, though there are some public transport options also available. Bristol airport is a 20 minute drive from Cheddar. Free on street Parking is available on Silver Street or in Birch Close about 100m down the hill from the cottage. If you need time to unpack your car, please ask our neighbours opposite if you can temporarily park on their driveway to unload/pack up - but please note - this is entirely at their discretion and it is not possible to permanently park your car on their driveway during your stay. Once parked, most of the attractions in Cheddar itself are within easy walking distance from the cottage. Cheddar is very dog friendly. You are welcome to bring your well behaved house trained dog to the cottage. There is no garden but the cottage is on a lane close to many public footpaths. We do ask that you do not allow your dog up onto the furniture or upstairs and an additional charge from the security deposit will be made if there is any damage to furniture, carpets or additional cleaning. Free on street Parking is available on Silver Street or in Birch Close about 100m down the hill from the cottage.
