This striking and bespoke four-bedroom contemporary house was designed by Glasgow architect, Don McLean, for his own family. It was completed in 2009 winning the ‘Best Eco-House UK’ in the Daily Telegraph / Home Building and Renovating Magazine award that year. ‘Beacon’ is a stunning home designed over three floor levels to maximise elevation and aspect. With uninterrupted view of the Campsie Hills to the North, and over Bearsden and Glasgow to the South, it is a truly spectacular experience. The property is a one of a kind, Architect designed and award winning eco-house in Bearsden, Glasgow. In addition, all electricity is provided by a 100% green-source supplier On a sloping site designed to take full advantage of a fabulous panorama southwards over the city and at the rear to the protected site of Bearsden’s Roman Antonine Wall park and woodland, including beautiful views to The Campsie Fells and Dumgoyne. Four bedrooms, study and ancillary accommodation are provided at mid-level, with the family room opening out to the rear garden with portable BBQ/Firepit facility. Living, Dining / kitchen accommodation is provided on the upper level in an open plan ‘loft’ style space that opens out to the south-facing deck by way of a large bi-folding door. Further south facing glazing is provided over the stair, enhancing the extent of the view at the upper level. As you enter the home, you are greeted with a “glass wall” in the double height entrance hall with open oak staircase. You will also discover luxury finishes with Villeroy & Boch sanitary ware in the three bathrooms / shower-rooms, a kitchen by with AEG and Hotpoint appliances and fabulous Iroko hardwood worktops, engineered wooden floors and solid oak internal doors. Entrance Level: Reception hall with cloaks store and the striking glass wall. There is a family room with French doors to rear garden with a television, sofa bed and work desk. Utility room (back door) with a washing machine and drying space. This is a perfect way to enter and exit to the spacious back garden. Bedroom 1 is the master bedroom with a generous en-suite shower room. Bedroom 2 has a single bed with storage. Bedroom 3 is the kids' room with a bunk-bed. We’ve left some toys for the kids. Bedroom 4 comes with another double bed and an en-suite. This level also contains a family room with a small double bed settee and study space. Upper Level: The open plan living space includes a lounge with bi-fold doors to a good-sized south-facing balcony with fantastic view, wood burning "Scan" stove, dining room and kitchen with roof light and French door to a covered rear balcony (late evening sun for your favourite sun-downer). There is enough private parking within the property for 4 cars. Street parking is also available for free. You will have exclusive access to this house during your stay. The house will be accessible to check-in after 3.00pm with our co-host meeting you at the house to introduce you to the house and its facilities. Complimentary towels, shower gel and soap are provided for our guests, as well as tea and coffee. There is also an information pack in the house highlighting the main attractions, restaurants, the best way to get around in the city and much more. Bearsden is a fabulous base from which to explore Glasgow and the surrounding areas. Loch Lomond is only 20 minutes away with easy access to the West coast of Scotland with it's many fabulous distilleries. Dumgoyne Distillery is on the doorstep! Mugdock Country Park is 10 minutes drive for long leisurely walks and children's activities, Milngavie village is the start point for the West Highland Way. Bearsden and Milngavie also offer a wide range of recreational facilities including the Allander Sports Complex and Virgin Active. There are local golf courses including Douglas Park and Glasgow Golf Club but our home is also within easy reach of golf courses such as The Carrick, Loch Lomond Golf Club and Trump's Turnberry. There are numerous local facilities in close proximity including a Marks & Spencer Simply Food, and an excellent variety of bars, restaurants and coffee shops. Bearsden is well served by local transport facilities with a regular service from Bearsden train station to Glasgow city centre and excellent direct links to the Glasgow Hydro, SSEC, Armadillo, Royal Concert Hall, West End, all city centre shopping, including an excellent direct service to the centre of Edinburgh, Loch Lomond and also connection to Glasgow Airport. There are excellent bus services directly into Glasgow city centre where you can access the "Clockwork Orange" circular underground route through which you can navigate our wonderful and friendly city. John our co-host will meet you at the property on your arrival. In the unlikely event John is unable to meet and greet you, a key will be left in the lock safe.
