Fontainebleau looks out across the river Aude (50m) towards the Pyrenean mountains and the Gorges de la Pierre-Lys about 800m away. This room can be configured as either a King-size or twin room, please state your requirements when reserving. The room has a private en-suite bathroom containing a shower and toilet. The washbasin is located in the bedroom adjacent to the wardrobe. This room has free tea and coffee making facilities. What makes Les Eaux Tranquilles so unique is its location in its own secure private park which is bordered by the river Aude on two sides (no other B&B here has direct access to the river) and non intrusive fencing on the other two. This coupled with the lack of children makes for a calm environment where you can chill out. If you are interested in history then look no further as we are in the centre of Cathar country. Access is by electric gates for which you will get a remote opener making the grounds and house secure. The park is divided into two areas separated by a fence and gate. The lower part of the park is a dog free area. There are lots of trees in the park offering shaded areas of which one has a picnic table. There is another picnic table down by the river’s edge. We allow guests to use them because we do not allow eating in the rooms (to many accidents in the past). There is a covered terrace where we have breakfast and evening meals in the summer months that guests can use if we have no guests for dinner. There is also a salon area on the terrace where people can smoke (or not). The internal dining area is available outside of meal times. In the central hallway there are books, games and tourist information including maps and books containing walking and cycling routes. I have lived here for over 15 years and am more than happy to offer suggestions on how to fill your day. There are so many things to do, see and visit not to mention the activities like water sports including rafting etc. hiking, on or off road cycling, trout fishing in the river (permit required via Internet). We also offer Table d’hôte in the evenings. This is communal eating (we require 24hrs advance notice because everything is fresh and homemade) where you get to interact with the other guests, a great way to swap ideas about places to visit. Please do not be frightened to ask us anything, we are here to help you get the most out of your stay. It is very quiet and rural here. Other than the two restaurants and a handful of neighbours there is nothing here. For shopping, more restaurants, bars, banks, supermarkets, doctor, chemists and entertainment you need to visit Quillan which is 5 minutes by car. In the summer months (July and August) there are several outdoor concerts in the town centre. The concerts start late (21:00hrs) and finish after midnight so when you have had enough you can return the peace and quiet of Les Eaux Tranquilles. We are located 4km south of Quillan just off the D117 (there are signs to direct you). If you can't find "Les Eaux Tranquilles" on your GPS our coordinates are LAT (N).: (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) LONG (E).: (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) The nearest train and bus terminus is at Quillan. Bus stops are located within 500m of Les Eaux Tranquilles but the service is very infrequent (time tables are available on the Internet). If we are not busy we can collect you from Quillan bus and train terminus. Local airports are Carcassonne and Perpignan (each within an hour’s drive). For non EU arrivals there is Toulouse (2hrs drive) and Barcelona (3hrs drive). To be honest there is no point in staying with us unless you have some mode of transport because there is no public transport that will take you to any of the places for sightseeing, activities or historical visits and that’s what people come here for. If you want to hire a bike (road, mountain, electric plus boot rack for your car) we can arrange this for you, get them delivered (and collected from) here and you pay the man direct (we can email you contact details). Hire period needs to be for a minimum of three days. Bike hire is also available at Quillan for half and full days. We will ask you to pay your Taxe De Sejour direct to us before you depart minus any “Occupancy taxes and fees” charged by Airbnb. This is because the tax rate on their website is not correct for our department. The Taxe De Sejour is calculated at €0.50 per person per night. This will rise to €0.60 in January (Phone number hidden by Airbnb)
