Middlegate Cottage

Our cottage is an attractive two bedroomed stone cottage in the small village of Burtersett. The cottage is comfortably furnished with the lounge having a wood burning stove. The kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher and a washer dryer. The main bedroom has a king sized bed and the second bedroom provides twin bedded accommodation. The cottage has a downstairs shower room and upstairs there is a further separate WC. Outside is a seating area to the side. Middlegate Cottage is in an idyllic location where you can truly relax and unwind with your family. This semi-detached holiday property lies in the quiet, peaceful village of Burtersett, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and has been thoughtfully designed especially for holiday makers who wish to explore the area. Guests will enjoy the stunning scenery of this distinctive Dales location. Rolling hills, quaint villages and traditional village pubs are all within easy reach. There are excellent walks close by along the Pennine Way and also trout fishing available locally. The bustling market town of Hawes is a 5-minute car ride where you will find the Dales Countryside Museum and Wensleydale Creamery, home to Wallace and Gromit’s favourite cheese, along with a varied selection of shops and eateries. Nearby Semerwater, which is a large natural lake, provides a wealth of water activities such as swimming, fishing and sailing. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile. More about the area: It has given its name to one of Britain's finest cheeses, but Wensleydale has so much more to offer. This is the valley of the River Ure, part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and a popular destination for walkers and hikers. As well as the rolling landscape of the valley itself, Wensleydale is overlooked by the distinctive flat- topped hill of Addlebrough, above the village of Bainbridge and Penhill, which stands guard over Leyburn. Wensleydale's dramatic scenery is dotted with ancient towns and villages, offering a great range of shops, pubs and tea rooms. Hawes, at the head of the valley, is the centre of the famous cheese-making industry and home to the Wensleydale Creamery (a firm favourite with Wallace and Grommit) as well as the famous Hawes Rope Makers, while Hardraw is home to Hardraw Force, the highest single drop waterfall in England which is accessed through the famous 'Green Dragon' traditional inn. Just a few miles down the road at West Burton you will find the beautiful Cauldron Falls, famously painted by Turner on his trips to 'The Dales'. At Aysgarth, the River Ure tumbles down a limestone staircase at the beauty spot of Aysgarth Falls, famously featured in the blockbuster Robin Hood; Prince of Thieves. Aysgarth also hosts a National Park Centre full with helpful staff and information to ensure that your visit to the area is memorable for years to come. There are many other fascinating towns and villages in the valley; hidden treasures abound as the Ure flows eastwards. Middleham, with its castle, was the childhood home of Richard III while at West Burton, you can visit the famous Cat Pottery. Just a stones throw away you will find the challenging Yorkshire Three Peaks; Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough for the more adventurous types and after the hard day exploring the peaks then why not stop off at The Station Inn at Ribblehead Viaduct for refreshment before heading back to the cosy Middlegate Cottage. Although a walker's paradise, tired feet can let the train take the strain with a trip on the Wensleydale Railway. Heritage steam and diesel trains run along 17 miles of line between Redmire and Leeming Bar at the eastern end of the dale. Don't forget the famous Buttertubs Pass, a great walk that leads from Hawes and Hardraw, over a high moorland pass and down to neighbouring Swaledale. You will have access to the whole of the property. The cottage is situated in the quiet hamlet of Burtersett right in the heart of Wensleydale with the most stunning scenery and just a stones throw away from Swaledale. The nearest public transport is in Hawes where you can catch a bus to the local market town of Leyburn which then links to the Wensleydale Railway. The nearest train station is Garsdale where you can catch the "Little White Bus" to Hawes or even pre-book to bring you straight to Burtersett itself.
