Contemporary, comfortable and luxurious 1-bedroom cottage, close to Exeter, Dartmoor and South Devon beaches. Flexible cancellation policy. Wonderful views, king size bed, stunning bathroom, open plan kitchen, living and dining room, with your own private deck to take in the views. Breakfast, Nespresso machine and bathrobes are provided for your use during your stay. Netflix, iPlayer and Disney+. Run by Superhost - please also see The Burrow (our other listing) for our 5* reviews. The Hutch is a new build holiday cottage within the grounds of our own house. We built it over the summer of 2017 based on what we look for in holiday accommodation (style and substance), and therefore hope you won't be lacking in anything. Can be booked along with The Burrow for two sets of friends or family members for a joint holiday but with your own personal space to return to at the end of the day. Parking for one car is off the road just outside the cottage, where you can then access The Hutch through your own gated entrance. On entering The Hutch step into the light, bright hallway. On your immediate left is your fully tiled, luxury bathroom with full length bath, overhead power shower, fluffy towels, posh handwash and handcream. Bath robes are provided. Opposite the bathroom is the bedroom. Again, we have tried to finish the room to a high standard. There is a king size bed with deep mattress, comfy bedding, plump pillows, cushions, stylish bedside lamps for night or day time reading. A wardrobe with hanging space, drawers and shelves is tucked in the corner and hairdryer plus full length mirror provided. There is also space for a travel cot if required (which we provide). The bedroom is also dual aspect but private. Out of the hallway you enter the open plan living, dining and kitchen room. The over riding feature is the wonderful views over the surrounding farmland - deer, sheep, cows and horses can often be seen. There is also a comfy 3 seater sofa, coffee table with travel and interior books to browse, smart TV(Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Disney+), electric fireplace, cupboard with more books, board games and baby/toddler toys and books. Positioned in front of the floor to ceiling windows, is a small dining table and comfy dining chairs for two people (high chair can also be provided). The kitchen is a stylish, modern light grey with washer/dryer, fridge (with small freezer box), oven, electric hob, kettle, toaster, microwave and Nespresso coffee machine. The kitchen sink looks straight onto trees where you might see wild birds hopping around. Owls are also a common nocturnal noise here. Finally, French doors lead out of the living area onto a purpose built wooden deck terrace. From this elevated position you look over our garden onto the surrounding fields or watch the birds hop around the feeder mounted on your balcony. A Weber BBQ and outdoor dining table are there to be enjoyed day or evening. In terms of provisions, tea, coffee, sugar, olive oil, salt and pepper are available regardless of length of stay. For breakfast we supply you with granary bread, pain au chocolat, butter, jam, marmalade, cereals, museli, porridge sachets and a bottle of fresh local whole milk. For those staying 3 nights or more we will make sure you have a bottle of wine to sip and biscuits. Within 5-10 drive is a small McColls shop and Tesco Express can be found in St Thomas, or a large Sainsburys in Alphington. Or you can try Mount Boon Milk (30 sec drive) to fill up your glass reusable milk bottle from cows in the village, or buy clotted cream, butter and cheese. Even try adding syrups to your bottle of milk for a milkshake! All very local. A welcome pack will be in The Hutch providing local information and I will also email this to guests after booking, but if you are new to the area and are looking for restaurant recommendations or a taxi to be booked before you arrive, then please let me know. Our well regarded local pub, The Lamb at Longdown, is just a 3 min walk away - exceptional food, locally sourced. Please note there is no Carbon Monoxide detector in the cottage because there is no gas supply or fire - it is all electric. Wifi is free and available in The Hutch. You also have your own small, sloped garden area by the front door and private deck out the back. Chester (our beagle) may make an appearance in the garden and woof his hello. While we live in the main house (20 metres) across the drive from The Hutch we will welcome you, answer any questions you have and be on hand for help, but also leave you to your own devices. We do have a young child and a beagle, who is friendly but has a tendency to woof at any new visitors as they arrive. We are located 3 miles to the west of Exeter and 3 miles from the edge of Dartmoor National Park. In fact, it is one of the main reasons our house appealed so much to us. Proximity to such a fabulous city and also to the wild moorland scenery. Beaches are about a 20-30 mins drive away - Exmouth, Teignmouth and Dawlish are our favourites and all have great facilities. Longdown is a small, quiet village 10 mins drive outside of Exeter. Our local gastropub, The Lamb at Longdown, is a 3 min walk down the hill from the cottage. A children's play area is 5 min walk within the grounds of Longdown Village Hall. It is definitely best to bring a car, although for short stays you can get around via a country bus service which passes through the village between Moretonhampstead and Exeter, or cycle (there are some big hills) or taxi. A taxi from the city back to The Hutch in the evening is around £10-15.
