The Turkey House is located on a working farm in the beautiful Hampshire countryside but just 5 minutes drive from the market town of Petersfield. Enjoy the warm farmhouse kitchen complete with AGA. You’ll love the rural location with walks from the front door (including to the famous Poet's Stone on Shoulder of Mutton Hill), the ambiance, and the outdoors space. Ideal for families, groups of up to 8 people, business travellers passing through, walkers and furry friends (dogs!) are very welcome! The Turkey House is a self-contained semi-detached 3 bedroom house located under the beautiful Hampshire Hangers. The owners retain a flat at the back of the house along with their farm office but this has a completely separate entrance. The living accommodation comprises of a warm and welcoming beamed farmhouse kitchen with 4 oven AGA, combination oven/microwave, large fridge/freezer and coffee machine with a complimentary selection of capsules. The sitting room is again beamed with large feature fireplace (not in use), Smart TV and DVD player plus ample seating for guests. The large hall/dining area has oak table, chairs and a dresser. There is a good selection of games, books and DVDs. There is a downstairs WC. Upstairs is the spacious master bedroom with king size bed and an additional single bed. The second bedroom has twin beds and the third, a 4 ft 6 inch double bed. A travel cot for infants and high chair are available in the property if required. There is also a sofa bed downstairs in the sitting room which can be made up on request to accommodate an eighth guest. There is a newly tiled master bathroom upstairs with Victorian style roll top bath and handheld shower attachment (but no full shower). There is a separate utility room for dirty welly boots and washing machine and tumble dryer. The front door opens onto a patio and turfed garden. Whilst fenced with gateway out to drive, the fencing is not secure for determined dogs! There is parking for one car by the back door and further parking is available in the farmyard. There are fantastic walks available right from the door. Explore the Ashford Hangers, climb Shoulder of Mutton Hill to Edward Thomas's Poet's Stone and take in the amazing views over the Hampshire countryside. In springtime walk up to Jack's Meadow and enjoy the primrose display. Ashford Farm is a working farm and if you would like to look around and see our animals (or tractors!!) please do let us know and we will can show you around. We have fresh eggs laid daily by our flock of chickens and frozen meat available in our shop for purchase, including our own sausages and bacon. At certain times of year we have fresh produce available so, if interested, please do ask! Guests have access to the whole semi-detached property and garden. The owners' office in the other half of the property overlooks the garden but we are very sensitive to people's privacy and the curtains remain drawn! The drive is shared with another holiday cottage. We are around and about the farm most days to answer any questions you may have and can always be contacted via telephone at any time to help with any queries. Steep is a charming village, located a couple of miles west of Petersfield. Situated under the beautiful Hampshire Hangers, the cottage is perfectly situated for walking and cycling. The Hanger's Way, Shipwrights' Way and South Down's Way are all nearby. Steep has 2 pubs - the renowned (spit and sawdust!) Harrow Inn with it's hearty ploughman's and pea and ham soup - and the Cricketers' Inn, a gastro pub with a pizza oven! We are blessed with many other country pubs around 5 minutes drive away - please do ask for recommendations. The nearby market town of Petersfield offers a wide range of shops, restaurants, cafes and a library. Day trips out include Portsmouth with it's Historical Dockyard including HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and the Mary Rose, and Gunwharf, where there's a multitude of restaurants, bars, a cinema and bowling, and the Spinnaker Tower all overlooking the harbour. Also within an easy drive is Goodwood with its motor events - the Festival of Speed and Revival - and horseracing meetings including Glorious Goodwood. To the west is the cathedral city of Winchester and Jane Austen's house at Chawton. For the children there is Marwell Zoo and Peppa Pig World at Paulton's Park - about a 45 minute drive away. Steep is located 3 miles west of Petersfield and public transportation is virtually nil. The cottage is about a mile down a narrow lane, so a car is recommended for getting around and visiting the local area. There is a train station in Petersfield, with fast trains going to Portsmouth, Guildford and London Waterloo. Taxis can be picked up at the station. For keen walkers and cyclists, there is a fantastic selection of walks and network of lanes to explore, including The Hangers Way, The Shipwright's Way and The South Downs Way. The Turkey House is located on a working farm (which is part of its charm!) It has a very peaceful location but you will hear countryside sounds such as the sheep baaing, geese squawking or cows mooing! We do ask that guests and their dogs do not enter the farmyard (other than the parking area) because of the dangers of livestock and tractors in and out, but are very happy to show them around by prior arrangement. There is an additional cleaning charge for pets - £25 per dog, payable direct. Because of the rural and peaceful nature of the location and out of respect to our neighbours, we do ask that guests observe "quiet hours" between 11 pm and 7 am. Your assistance with this is much appreciated. IMPORTANT - CORONAVIRUS UPDATE In these unprecedented times, we are absolutely committed to making your stay at The Turkey House as comfortable and safe as possible. Because of the current situation with Coronavirus we are operating an enhanced cleaning and disinfecting protocol. This is to protect both our guests and our cleaning team. This does mean that we have had to alter our normal check in and out times to allow longer for our cleaning team to prepare the house. It also means that we have been advised to remove some of the non-essential items such as books, DVDs, games, cushions and throws. This allows our cleaning team to work hard on cleaning and disinfecting the house thoroughly, especially the "high touch" areas and the contents of the kitchen. We do need to ask you, our guests, to help too. At the end of your stay, please strip your beds and leave the linen and towels by the washing machine. Please empty all bins and double bag the rubbish in the bags provided. Please open all windows and doors before departing to help ventilate the property. Finally, please load the dishwasher with china and mugs/glasses and leave it running. We do appreciate this is a lot to ask but we'd like to work with you to help carry on welcoming guests to our cottages and we are very grateful for your assistance.
