Villa Helidoni is situated in the village Pontikiana, in the province of Kissamos belonging to the municipality of Kolimbari and prefecture of Chania. The villa is a 45-minute drive from the Port of Souda and 25 minutes from the town of Chania. The distance from the town of Chania is 25km while it is 30 km from Chania airport and 30km from the Port of Souda. During spring and summer the small village of Pontikiana overflows with swallows hence the villa’s name “Helidoni” which means swallow in Greek. These birds make their nests in the most unusual places, intriguing visitors with their whistles and chirps. Pontikiana is a small traditional village in the hills at an altitude of 150m. It has around 50 permanent residents who are mostly farmers and who uphold the tradition of Cretan hospitality. The village borders with Vouves and is blessed with the beauty of nature. It is very green and has many footpaths that can be discovered while walking through the olive groves admiring the scenery of the area. Breathe in the clean air, listen to the birds, smell the perfume of the flowers and hear the cuckoo interrupting the peacefulness of the night. Taste the traditional products (xerotigana and avgokalamara - both sweet pastries; pastelia - sesame seed sweets; hilopites - a type of pasta; tsikoudia - or raki as it is also known; and kalitsounia - small pies filled with soft cheese and/or spinach), and sample the excellent local wine in the neighbouring wine-cellar. Don’t forget to try out the exceptional local virgin olive oil, which is well known all over Greece. The escape to nature combined with all the comforts of modern accommodation will make your stay at Villa Helidoni unforgettable. In the neighbouring village of Vouves, you can see the oldest olive tree in the whole of the Mediterranean, which is over (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) years old and from which the (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) Olympics winners’ crowns were made. Also, you will have the opportunity to visit the village Voukolies, which is at a distance of just 8km and has plenty of shops, traditional tavernas and a small waterfall. Also the nearest beach is 10min by car and the famous beaches Elafonisi (the dear island), Falaserna and Balos are waiting for you.The church of Ag. Antoniou is situated 300 metres from the villa. It is the main church of the village and has recently been renovated. (Phone number hidden by Airbnb)
