Large flat (2 en-suite beds) in Thorner near Leeds
A self contained, large 2 bedroom flat (sleeps 4) within 1.5 acres of grounds, in the village of Thorner, north east of Leeds city. The apartment is light, airy and spacious, with two good sized en-suite bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen and a lounge with dining/desk area. Your views are of local farmlands and our award winning garden (which you are welcome to spend time in). An ideal home and location for visiting Leeds/York/Harrogate, etc. from a peaceful, idyllic and comfortable base. The apartment is the whole top floor of a large Edwardian house, which you access the from the main entrance and staircase direct to the flat, then the flat is self-contained and lockable. You are welcome to enjoy the garden (6 Leeds-in-Bloom gold medals won!) and (by appointment), the snooker room. We will be there to meet and show you to the apartment, then we'll be available by phone, as first and quickest contact, should you need any assistance - happy to help so do give me quick text or call! We love the location as we are in the gorgeous village of Thorner - included in Sunday Times "Britain's 50 best villages" - with lovely countryside, yet right near Leeds Fest (International Rock Festival) at Bramham Park (also famous for the Bramham Horse Trials) so it's a great base for those events! We're 15 minutes drive from Leeds City Centre, the Leeds Arena and the Leeds Universities. The Tour-de-Yorkshire comes right past the house as the area is great for challenging cycling. There are also other good shopping and eating areas nearby including Chapel Allerton (trendy "Notting Hill of the North"), Oakwood and Street Lane. There are several great public parks for walking, lakes, tea shops, etc. (e.g. Harewood House where they filmed the 'Victoria' and 'Downton Abbey' movies, Roundhay Park where the Leeds Triathlon takes place or Temple Newsome Hall, which also has a 'Go Ape' site). The village has 2 restaurants: The Beehive (Bistro) and Maisha (Indian), 2 pubs - both do food and have occasional entertainment, a deli/tea shop, garden centre, lovely centuries-old church, village stray and a well equipped childrens’ outdoor play ground/outdoor gym. There is also a boules/petanque court in the village (we have a set of boules you can use). The house and village are surrounded by farmlands, lovely walks, other cute villages and, being near the A1, M1 and Leeds ring road, it’s easy to get to surrounding places of interest such as Harrogate, Knaresborough and York (all approx. 20 to 25 minutes drive) and of course the Yorkshire Dales. You'll find an M&S Food, Tesco superstore and an Aldi within 2 to 3 miles and, about 4 miles away, there's 'The Springs', a new retail and entertainment park where there is a cinema, a Gino D'Acampo restaurant, Next, M&S, TK Maxx, etc. If designer outlets are your thing, there's Arthur McGlen outlet near York. If you're a snooker fan, we find it easy to get to the snooker, by car or bus&train, in York (UK championships) and Sheffield (World championships). Go to the championships and play on our professional table when you get back! ;-) If you're going to a wedding (or indeed you are the wedding party!), we are very handy for weddings at Thorner church or Bowcliffe Hall. If you're the bride or groom, you'd be welcome to stay, get ready and have photos taken in the garden. Indeed, we've been honoured to host 4 bridal parties who chose our place for their pre-night and on-the-day preparations. Car - The location is ideal for visitors with cars to get to the many great places within driving distance e.g. Leeds city and surrounding villages, Harrogate, Wetherby, York, Knaresborough, Ripon, etc. (and, on a practical level - the local Tesco superstore, M&S Foods, Aldi, The Springs retail and cinema park and Cross Gates shopping centre, to name just a few, are within 2 to 5 miles). Bus - There is a bus service that stops just outside the house that will take you to Leeds, Wetherby and Harrogate, etc. Train - there is a station at Cross Gates (4 miles away) which goes direct to and from Leeds city (15 minute journey) and York city (25 minute journey) - both primary northern UK train hubs. There is a fitted laptop safe in the flat.
