Long regarded as one of the the most attractive towns in Northern Ireland, the island of Enniskillen is situated between Upper and Lower Lough Erne in the centre of County Fermanagh. The town’s name is derived from the Irish ‘Inis Ceithleann’ meaning island of Cathleen, an Irish mythological character. Anyone visiting Enniskillen is spoiled for choice as there are many activities available from sight-seeing, lake cruising, water-sports, fishing, museums, theatre, golf and hill-walking to simply shopping and dining out. There is certainly something to suit every taste, and all only a short distance from Swallow Lane. Only 90 minutes from Belfast with its Titanic museum and the North Coast, popular with fans of the series, Game of Thrones, two hours from Dublin and 40 minutes from the stunning Donegal coast, not to mention neighbouring counties Leitrim, Sligo and Cavan, Swallow Lane provides the ideal base for discovering much of Ireland. We are perfectly placed near the Sligo Road to take in the beautiful landscape of the Marble Arch Global Geo-Park (10 miles) with its ‘Cladagh Glen’ (a river-gorge woodland walkway with waterfalls), which includes Cuilcagh Mountain and its ‘Stairway to Heaven’ with stunning views. Even closer (6 miles) is Florence Court House (National Trust) with its walled garden and tea room, as well as Castle Coole (National Trust) in Enniskillen itself. The Lough Navar view point (16 miles) is another must-see with panoramic views across Lower Lough Erne and its islands. Some visitors come to attend weddings at nearby Lough Erne Golf Resort or other Enniskillen venues. Right beside Swallow Lane is a dynamic, little commercial community with two Spar supermarkets and a petrol station, fantastic ‘Stef’s Fish and Chips’ shop, ‘9th Avenue’, a great place for cooked breakfast/brunch/lunch/dinner, open 10am-10pm, an off-license and even a nail-bar and specialist barber. However, you are also just 3 or 4 minutes drive from Enniskillen with its interesting, independent stores, as well as the popular high street chains for some clothes, shoes and home-ware browsing. Erneside Shopping Centre and supermarkets Tesco, Asda, Lidl and M&S are all centrally located for your convenience. Fermanagh has an excellent selection of very good restaurants. There is a full list in my guidebook inSwallow Lane. However, I would be delighted to advise you and even make bookings for you prior to your visit. Ideally, a car is the best way to discover Co. Fermanagh. However, there are taxis and a bus station in town. Our welcome pack includes some traditional Fermanagh hospitality and a few necessities to get you started.
