Hemmed between lush sugar cane fields and the endless Indian Ocean, the Village is situated on the Dolphin Coast between Umhlanga and Ballito approximately 25 kilometres north of Durban, home to the busiest harbour in Africa. La Mercy overlooks the Indian Ocean and extends northwards from the Umdloti River along the shoreline. This beautiful section of sandy beach has a shallow intertidal zone where the low tides form a myriad of rocky inshore pools. The coastal waters are rich in marine life providing endless shore fishing opportunities and great offshore ski boat and paddle ski fishing. La Mercy itself has no shopping centre and is best suited for a tranquil seaside break. There is the local La Mercy Hotel and The Seabelle Restaurant just along the road. However, it is just over the hill from Umdloti Beach and a quick 15 minutes drive to Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga and Ballito Junction Shopping Mall in Ballito. Umdloti Beach has 4 excellent restaurants, 2 coffee shops and a great family bar restaurant, so if you want to go out for the evening it is probably first choice.
