Beautiful bird watching and fishing hamlet on nature lovers Kangaroo Island. The home had modern amenities, fantastic sea views from every window and an alfresco spa bath, sitting high over the bay. Centrally located for an exploration of the island. Caretaker will welcome you and answer any questions you have. You will find a range of tour suggestions, visiting Remarkable Rocks, Seal Bay, endless beaches, Kelly Hill Caves, Little Sahara for sandboarding and Pennington Bay for amazing surfing! The home has a full kitchen with modern appliances, laundry with washing machine and dryer, extra pillows and blankets, BBQ on the balcony, beautiful 10 person large dining table and big screen TV in the lounge. If you have a house full, each bedroom has its own TV and space. Watch amazing birdlife from the large windows, wander down to the wharf and dangle a line. Relax! Booking the house will allow access to the entire living space. Additional bedrooms will be locked, depending on numbers of paid guests. You will have a caretaker meet you who will explain all the features of the home and make recommendations for your stay. American River is a quiet and peaceful hamlet where the locals fish, hike and enjoy the amazing vista and wildlife. There are two excellent quality restaurants within walking distance of the home, a local sports bar that serves hearty and cheap meals and miles of ocean. There is no general store at American River but the Post Office has a range of supplies, including milk, bread, ice creams and basic essentials. Please note: there is no fuel available at American River. The protected Pelican Lagoon is perfect for kayaking and bird spotting. Kayaks can be hired locally. There are a number of walking trails, community tennis courts, a playground and an oyster farm that will sell fresh fish from the wharf. The Oyster Shop is open from 11am-3pm daily and sells amazing eat in or takeaway options, including fresh from the sea oysters, our famous King George Whiting, abalone and marron. Do not miss it! There is no public transport on the island but cars can be hired on arrival if you fly in to Kingscote. You can bring your own car over on the Sealink ferry from Cape Jervis and tour at your hearts content. The main roads are well surfaced but be aware that many roads are not. Please drive carefully. The driveway is steep and there are internal stairs. Once inside however, all bedrooms and living areas are on the one level. We have an extensive library of in many genres and are most happy for you to spend your days relaxing with a good book. However, we ask that you do not take our books home with you. They are for the enjoyment of all our guests, so you will need to finish your reading before your depart.
