The Starling at Pond Eddy: Boardinghouse Rooms

The Starling at Pond Eddy is a country retreat nestled on almost 8 acres of woods along the Delaware River, comprising of a Historic Delaware and Hudson Canal House and a caretaker’s cottage. The Riverhouse is separated into two spaces, the Boardinghouse Rooms and a private Apartment (that can be rented together along with The Boardinghouse Rooms). The Boardinghouse Rooms is a private space and the rental includes all of the rooms that was reportedly once a late 1800's boardinghouse overlooking the Delaware River. Although The Starling at Pond Eddy retains much of its late 1800’s historic charm, the buildings have been upgraded with modern amenities like central air conditioning and heat. The Boardinghouse Rooms boast a private porch and a variety of bedrooms, from an adventure-themed bunk room to an elaborate Art Deco-inspired suite. Fire pits are located behind both buildings for roasting marshmallows (and ghost stories). A shared propane grill is also available for guests to use during the spring/summer months. The kitchenette is stocked with coffee, herbal tea and an electric coffee pot + French press. (Please note that there are induction burners for cooking but no oven.) Each bedroom is outfitted with memory foam mattresses and hypoallergenic bed and pillow covers. The pillows are down-alternative and hypoallergenic with 100% cotton covers. The soft garment washed sheets and duvet covers are also 100% cotton. Our towels are generously sized soft combed 100% Egyptian cotton and the bathroom has a hair dryer and portable clothing steamer. The property has a newly installed generator for inclement weather or power outages. We will also be available to answer questions about the property, but we won't be at the property while you are enjoying your visit. Located off New York State Route 97 in Pond Eddy, a hamlet in Sullivan County, New York, the property is minutes away from Hawk’s Nest, a picturesque winding road along the Delaware River named for the birds of prey that nest in the area. Pond Eddy is a burgeoning community, rich with history. Its topography is punctuated by scenic overlooks, elegant historic architecture and bucolic panoramic views of the river. In the last several years the areas around Pond Eddy have undergone a good deal of development and small business growth as well, melding both new and old structures into the framework that’s making up the revived Lower Catskills area. Pond Eddy is a hamlet of Sullivan County, NY, and our property is conveniently located off NY State 97. We are less than a two hour drive from the New York City metropolitan area and accessible by train (the MTA Metro-North Port Jervis station is only a short 15 minute taxi ride from the property). The Boardinghouse Rooms is a private rental on The Starling at Pond Eddy property, ideal for large groups. If you are looking for even more space this rental can be combined with The Apartment (by opening a pass-through door). When both these units are rented we also allow use of our ground floor General Store for a flat rate - which is great for communal dining! Looking for a cozy couples or solo retreat? The Apartment can also be rented by itself to accommodate a smaller group. This rental shares the large porch and backyard with The Boardinghouse Rooms. In addition to these two rentals, The Starling at Pond Eddy also rents out a caretakers Cottage that's located at the back of the historic riverhouse.
