Colombine, a characterful converted prune oven barn holiday let, the gite is set on the ground floor with wheelchair access, private heated saltwater swimming pool & gardens. Set in a tranquil location on a hill surrounded by countryside. Short drive to historical towns with weekly farmers markets. Bordeaux wine region near Saint Emilion, Bergerac & the Dordogne, South West France. Making this an ideal location to explore this beautiful unspoilt area. Set in a tranquil country location near the border of the Dordogne in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region of southwest France. We're not sure exactly how old the cottage is, but it features on the Plan Napoleon which makes it at least 160 years old. Dogs are considered on request. A maximum of 2 dogs is considered on request at a charge of £65 each per booking, plus an additional security bond of £250. The cottage is well equipped and furnished and sleeps up to six people over three bedrooms, one double room and two twin rooms, although please note that one of the twin rooms can also be converted to make a large king-size bed. A baby cot, bed rails and a highchair can also be provided at no extra cost. There is a bathroom with bath, wet room shower, washbasin and wc, a second shower room with washbasin and shower. Also a separate wc with a hand washbasin. It's a peaceful retreat from the rigours of everyday life. The nearest restaurant bar is at Auriac sur Dropt 2.8km (1.2 miles), 30 minutes walk along a country road. Where possible the owners have retained the old stone walls and character of the original building, which was open on two sides, except for one room which is now the sitting room. The dining room retains the openness of the original by having two large sliding windows all along one side, giving the room a light airy feel. The horseshoe-shaped kitchen fits snugly into the old prune drying area. The cottage is double glazed and well insulated with electric radiators and a wood-burning stove for those seeking winter accommodation or a long let. The cottage is all on one level, so no stairs to negotiate and is wheelchair accessible. ----- Bedrooms Bedroom 1: Double room with double aspect windows looking out over the garden and surrounding fields. Built-in wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside cabinets and a room fan. King size bed, 160cm x 200cm, door width 89cm. Bedroom 2: Twin room with double aspect windows looking out over the garden and the fields. Wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside cabinets and a room fan. Two single beds, 90cm x 180cm, door width 79cm. Bedroom 3: Twin room with windows looking out over the garden. Wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside cabinets and a room fan. Two single beds, 90cm x 180cm, door width 79cm. Two bathrooms, two wc: Located next to/opposite the bedrooms: Large spacious bathroom with a full bath, basin, spacious wet room walk-in shower area and a wc with lots of space to one side. Door width 89cm. Suitable for a wheelchair. Shower room with a wet room walk-in shower and a washbasin. There is also an additional separate wc with a hand washbasin. Kitchen / Dining area: Open plan kitchen area and dining table with opening doors and views over the garden and the pool, there is a lovely covered outside dining table and chairs just outside the kitchen. The kitchen facilities include a Fridge freezer, oven, grill, dishwasher, microwave, kettle and filter coffee machine. There is also a separate laundry room with a washing machine. Lounge with sofas in front of the old feature fireplace, DVD player, TV with both English and French-speaking channels. Free Wi-Fi. ----- Outside: From the kitchen dining area walk out to a covered terrace with a table and chairs, looking out over the garden and the pool, a sloping path takes you from the house to the pool terrace. The garden surrounds the property on three sides, the fourth is farmland. At the far end of the garden is a children's swing. There is also an additional covered area with table tennis. This is a quiet rural position, the owners neighbouring property is used occasionally but does not impact the privacy or facilities afforded by guests of Columbine, the other buildings are the old farm barns that are not used. This property and buildings are set at the end of their own road high on a hill, the nearest neighbour is quite a way across farmland. Private heated salt pool: Measures 5m x 10m (4.9m x 9.8m) plus walk-in steps with a handrail and is protected by an alarm. Surrounded by a sun terrace with sun loungers. The step depths into the water measures: 1st step is above or on the waterline, 2nd step 20cm deep, 3rd step 45cm deep, 4th step 65cm deep. The shallow end is 90cm deep and the deepest part is 1.8m. ----- Locally in the area: 8km away is the ancient town of Duras (Lot et Garonne) has bars, restaurants, banks and shops, and a traditional weekly market every Monday morning and a bustling night market every Thursday in the height of the summer months. There is an abundance of towns and villages to explore locally. The nearest supermarket at Duras is 7km away through country lanes. The nearest restaurant bar is at Auriac sur Dropt 2.7km away. Bar and a restaurant Allemans sur Dropt 7km. Canoeing in the summer along the river Dropt at Allemans sur Dropt 7km. Nearby are public tennis courts at Duras. Located in the heart of the Bordeaux famous wine region where there are plenty of vineyards for tastings and tours. The picturesque towns of Duras and Monsegur are a short drive to excellent dining, shopping and the countryside is perfect for exploring. Duras centre is 8km away, the nearest supermarket at Duras is 7km away through country roads. The ancient town of Duras where there are bars, restaurants, banks and shops, and a traditional weekly market every Monday morning and a bustling night market every Thursday in the height of the summer months. Allemans du Dropt (6km) has a restaurant, bar, bakers and butcher. Many more towns and villages to explore locally. The nearest restaurant is at Auriac sur Dropt 2.7km away or a 30 minutes walk down a country lane Le Camelia Restaurant. Bordeaux city is 83km drive to the west and Bergerac is 38km to the northeast, Saint Emilion 52km northwest. ----- The pool is open from the beginning of April until the end of October. Pool heating is included from 22 May - 24 September 2021 ​Pool heating is included from 21 May - 23 September 2022 Pool heating outside of these dates is charged at £125 per week. The pool temperature is subject to environmental factors and cannot be guaranteed. Included in the price: Bed linen, bath towels and pool towels are provided. A complimentary supply of bed linen and bath towels will be provided for stays of 2 weeks or more. End of stay clean, although the house must be left in a reasonable condition on departure. Dogs are considered on request. A maximum of 2 dogs is considered on request at a charge of £65 each per booking, plus an additional security bond of £250.
