Price-Furness House: Historic 1830s Farmhouse in the Countryside outside Philadelphia. Birthplace to Will Price (Arts & Crafts Founder) in 1860 and updated by Frank Furness (architect for some of Univ. of Penn) in 1880s, Modernised, 3,500 Sq. Feet, with 6 Bedrooms, Chef's Kitchen, Luxury Pool, Old-fashioned Wrap-Around Porch, 3 Dining Patios - 2 with Grills, Private Gardens incl. Orchard - 25m train ride to Philadelphia. Perfect for family on an extended stay. Pets welcome (for a small fee). Price-Furness House: The old Farmhouse was architected/added to by Frank Furness in the late 1800s. Furness was the architect of much of the Univ. of Pennsylvania (the red brick buildings are his signature style) and the Victorian train stations around suburban Philadelphia. Before that it was in the birthplace in 1860 of Will Price, one of the founders of the Arts & Crafts movement. It has been thoroughly updated with every room modernised and restored back to period details. The furnishings are a mixture of colonial as well as French pieces collected while living in Europe. The Chef's Kitchen was just completely renovated. The center island has a Wolf range-top. There is a Wolf double-oven and Sub-Zero refrigerator. Miele Washer/Dryers as well as a Miele Dishwasher are hidden behind cabinetry. The TV is integrated into the Media System and can be 'AirPlayed' with Apple devices once connected to the Wi-fi network. Three outdoor patios can be reached from the kitchen - there are two grills, one gas and one charcoal-burning Japanese Kamado style. There is a full-sized pool that was recently thoroughly updated. The Front Porch is covered, looking out on the vegetable garden and wrapping around to the front entry to the home. Rockers are there to relax in. There is a small Orchard with two Cherry trees, two Apple Trees, two Pear trees and two Blueberry Bushes. Garden benches rest nearby and are a great spot for a coffee in the morning or at night for a cocktail. Historical Marker: There is an actual "Milestone" hidden along the road - indicating 4MTC. Guests can guess what the letters stand for - the local historic society reports this stone was first put there in 1764. You'll be able to use all floors of the house except the basement which is storage (the two exceptions being to get charcoal for the Kamado grill which is at the bottom of the steps; and to access the electrical breaker panel). The pool is handled by a local service company - feel free to take a dip during the season (from May - or even earlier if it's warm - to October). There are Harmon Kardon speakers which can be accessed over Bluetooth. We will arrange your welcome to the house and make sure your stay is convenient and comfortable, handling any questions. Please feel free to use the app to stay in touch - we'll be back quickly to respond to any questions. The town in Wallingford is very conveniently situated just outside Philadelphia. It's quiet with many trees and residents care for their historic colonial, mid-century modern and new properties with civic pride. Our little neighborhood is quiet and private - which makes our place even nicer, as well as our request for quiet and mindfulness outside even more important. The house is situated in Wallingford, just 25 minutes by suburban train to downtown Philadelphia. It's a 20 minute walk to Main St. in Media with many restaurants to choose from and a bike ride away from Swarthmore College and the lovely grounds of Scott Arboretum. You can also take the train to both Media and Swarthmore. After hours: The house sits in small neighborhood of homes on a private lane - please be mindful of the community particularly in the evening and especially about noise outside. Consideration is requested for our neighbors which means no music outside and quiet voices especially after sunset. No music means no radios, no speakers, no portable stereos. Also, while we are also patriotic, our area is not situated to blow off bottle rockets, fire crackers or fireworks of any kind. Umbrellas: if there is a storm, please put the umbrellas down. The house has ample space along a porte-cochere and circular drive which is where cars are parked. In the community everyone parks in their own driveways and doesn't park along the lane. We have hosted many families over AirBNB and based on that experience ask that each guest agree - as a part of staying - to our house rules which we share over the AirBNB app prior to booking. If things are broken or damaged due to not following the house rules - including moving furniture or adjusting the pool equipment beyond what is allowed; or issues are caused in the neighborhood - we reserve the right to assess a damage fee equal to the repair of the item and a $100 per issue charge. Of course, we always hope not to have to make these charges - and almost never have.
